Question about cats in general?

Why do cats smack their lips?
I mean for my cat it's so extreme that you can hear it from across the room!

I'm not really sure why they do this. It's not as if they can't hear themselves doing it since cats have fantastic hearing. Perhaps it's their way of ensuring that their mouths are clean and free of any obstructions when they close them.

I do not know cats are cats and they do what ever they want to do.
