Can it cuase cancer of the lungs or anything like that?
I use it to clean the shower and toilet (I know i should something more environmentally friendly, but I live with two other guys and they are pretty gross sometimes and bleach seems to be the only thing that gets the really nasty stains out). Sometimes the fumes are pretty bad. I open a window and everything, but what is the worst that could happen to me, long term, if I do this twice a month?

Bleach fumes can burn your lungs and leave permanent scars. In the future you will have trouble breathing, just like a life long smoker.
Please stop using it and find a more health friendly cleaner.

You could get a pneumonia from inhaling any kind of dust or aggressive fumes. That's actually not too uncommon. Even without it, little by little, you could get a decreased lung capacity. You really don't want that stuff in your lungs because it's like burning them chemically. Lung tissue doesn't regenerate itself as well as other tissues in our body. It will result in smaller lung capacity (just like any burn or pneumonia). So if you have to use chlorine try to find something that you at least don't inhale. Maybe a paste or some goop but not spray or powder. That said, I was a competitive swimmer after I suffered severe pneumonia and I was doing OK, so it's not so terrible but yeah, my lung capacity was always smaller than it's supposed to be which I think was caused by pneumonia.
The worst os probably cancer, but that's less likely cause your body is working hard to oppose it at all times.

When I lived with slobby roommates I used shower sandals. When it was my turn to clean I'd spray the cleaner just by extending my arm into the shower cabiner but keeping the curtain closed. When it setteled down, I'd get it with a brush. When I needed to do the floors I'd put some liquid cleaner in a bucket of water and use gloves to wipe everything down.
I hope you get your own place soon.

You should be fine if you follow the directions that will be outlined on the container. Obviously you should make sure you have plenty of ventilation and wear protective gloves. If you get it on your skin wash it off straight away. Chlorine is dangerous but like a lot of things if used properly it is ok. For example it is used in the water you swim in at public pools.
