Despite what a majority of people on here think, it is legal to ship long guns across state lines to yourself in care of another person or to your own address "for hunting or other legal purposes". As I'm sure I'll get a million thumbs down, here is the link to the ATF website that states it can be done:
http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#b9
Handguns must be mailed FFL to FFL.
What I can not tell you is about the Canada restrictions. I am not sure how that would come into play.
Depending on where you are being stationed, you might want to check out the price of sending the guns via excess baggage on the plane or via plane cargo. I've checked rifles in my baggage for years with no problems. UPS, DHL, and FedEx can cost a fortune to get to some places in Alaska. The USPS is pretty reasonably, but can take awhile. I'm not sure what it would cost to mail a rifle these days.
Another thing you can check into (if you have the time) is to take the Alaska Marine Highway ferry out of Washington State up to wherever you need to go. I believe you sail through Canadian waters, so you maybe subject to the same restrictions as if you were driving through Canada. You could call the AMHS and ask.
Here is their website: http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/
Interstate transportation of firearms can be a serious crime. Prior to shipping anything, I'd suggest you call a lawyer or at the very minimum, contact the ATF to verify that no changes in regulations have occured (they have been very nice when I have called in the past).

None. Assuming by 'transfer' you mean this person is going to walk out your NH home and then drive home to Ma with the guns. There is no such thing as a national gun registry. Why people ask this question everyday here just scares the crap outta me. Any person can legally buy a long gun while visiting another state. This one is a no-brainer. People can buy a pistol in a private sale while in another state - but - usually not though a dealer although some states have agreements. However, it needs to meet the requirements of their home state. (They cant buy a Walther P22 and bring it back to a state like California where threaded barrels on pistols are illegal - here you need the special Ca legal model) If your Ma buyer does not have a Ma pistol permit - although it is no skin off your butt, you might not want to sell it since it is only going to get him in trouble and you have no idea where this gun would end up. You cant mail or ship these. It needs to be a face to face sale - you mail or ship - then you have to go through a dealer unless the recipient is related to you.

The correct answer is yes, you can ship a longgun to YOURSELF legally . THE CARRIERS have their own rules about this (probably where the confusion lies). UPS, and FEDex require that the longguns be shipped to FFL s. USPS has no such requirement.
Handguns are not able to be shipped via USPS but can be shipped via UPS and Fed Ex via an FFL dealer in your state. USPS will not let an unlicensed person ship a handgun through their system. If the gun is going to anyone other than yourself, the ATF requires that it be shipped to an FFL in your state.

Yes, it is completely legal to ship a firearm by UPS, or FedX to yourself in another state without the use of a FFL dealer. You have to deliver the firearms to the shipper and you have to beat the shipment to their location and receive them yourself in person. It is illegal to mail any firearm any where by the USPS.

To yourself, yes. Shipping them to a neighbor is illegal, though. Interstate shipping on a firearm from one party to another is illegal without an FFL in the middle. Shipping a long gun from one person to another INTRASTATE is still legal in most states. It's only when you ship a firearm over a state line to another person that you need to use an FFL.

Sorry, But as Boker advised earlier you must ship them to a licensed FFL Dealer in Alaska. You will also be required to supply UPS or whatever Carrier that serves your area a copy of the receiving Dealers FFL license BEFORE your firearms can be shipped legally. The fee runs $10-$20 per firearm on average. If you were to attempt to ship them to yourself at your new address the firearms would be subject to immediate confiscation and you would not get them or their value back....
NOTE* Any firearm shipped to another state/country is subject to the laws and regultions of the countries that it would pass thru in transit. In this case Canada..There is no way to circumvent these shipping requirements....Sorry
