Or, you may not have children, but your parents do this; how has it affected your life?

Hi Virgina,
I believe that it is the most important thing a mother or father can do for their children. I feel that saying things out loud is a vital part of it as well. One day while I was cleaning my daughters room. She has moved away from home. I had finally decided to brave going in and trying to clean. (of course crying my eyes out) I began to pray for her, OUT LOUD!! begging the Lord to take care of her. Asking Him to bring her back to Him and to help her so that she doesn't stray to far. I began to speak things that I believed would happen and I felt like the Spirit agreed with me and I have no fear or doubt that God will answer my prayers and that he was pleased with my faith in speaking blessings on her that day. I am only waiting to see the results from that day. There has already been a few victory's that he has let me see in her life. But I am waiting for the big one and expect many more. We can with confidence speak things if the Lord is in it and be able to fully expect that they will come to being. Speaking things if faith, yes, I whole heatedly agree it works.

I have never given my children a blessing so to speak but I have and do pray for them. I don't know how much good it has done for them, lol, one of them is in trouble all the time, but I still do it! I have had some elders from my sisters church give me a blessing when I was near death from menengitis in my 20's and felt better right after, I mean I immediatly started improving. You can take that however you want, there may be medical explanations although my physicians could not come up with any, but it made a believer out of me!!

I'm with Karen J on this one I love to ask God to give angels charge over my children and to remove people that should not be in their lives. I also pray that God would keep a hedge of protection around them at all times and for the convicting power of the Holy Spirit to be upon them when they are in situations or doing things that they should not. So far so good. I highly recommend that any believing parent pray for the protection and blessing of their children. It's our duty. God bless!!

Are you kidding? I was raised by an atheist father, and didn't even know about prayer till I was 48, so I guess I can understand your doubt, but you speaking the word of God over your children and grandchildren has amazing effects. Just say every day that the word of God says He gives His angels charge over them to keep them in all their ways. Also pray that anyone in their lives who shouldn't be there would be removed. it works, believe me, Ive lived it!The words you speak out make things happen. Only speakwords of blessing over your children.Accept Jesus as the only one in this world that can do anything to protect them. I have lived though it, and I know. Accept Jesus in your life, just say it alone, and He will come into your life and change things. Believe me.

I believe one of the benefits of this practice is for our future generations. We are placing something on them to help them when we are no longer around. Call it a side-effect. The Natives pray for their children "unto 7 generations" forward. The first time I heard that, I knew I had come across something profoundly wise.

We tend to become what is put in to us. This comes in by reading and hearing. So if your children hear that they are good, and well behaved, and make good grades, then they will. Confessing the Word of God over is is a blessing, and like prayer. God performs the Word.

My parents neer did this. They prayed for me--they did not run around making a big show of it--which iscontrary to how Jesus taught us to pray.

But you asked about advantages. It is a good way to indoctrinate children, as opposed t o teaching them. And it is an excellant psychological strategy for creating the impression tat one has an "in" with God-thereby stifling any independant thought and intimidating children into blind obedience. It's therefore also a good way of helping to ensure that children don't ask questions about the cults that follow such practices.

All too often we need another reminder sister. Thank You.
This is important to me as a christian mother. Speaking words of blessing to our children is something that is seen in the bible. The way the parents would pray and bless their children, especially before their deaths. Recalling Abraham, Isaac and Israel. Its as if your words are giving the Lord the means to reach and touch the life of the one you are speaking to.
Words have weight in the eyes of God. So much so that even the idle ones will be given an account for before Him. He created this whole universe by the Word of His Mouth. " Let there Be!" And there was....

Do you recall in the gospels when the mothers brought their little children to the Lord while He was resting and the disciples went out to get food? The disciples were all too ready to say" the Master is tired...shoo shooo children!"
Ahhhh... but what did this Lord do? He rebuked the disciples and said" Allow the children to come to me for of such is the Kingdom of the Heavens"
Sister.. I am always moved to tears when I recall this scene. Then the word says that He blessed them.. and prayed fervently for them..Oh My! What a blessing for each of those children... and their parents....to have this kind of experience with the Lord.

We need to be such ones before our kids. These are the Heritage of the Lord. They are lent to us to raise unto the Lord for His glory and purpose. This might seem strange sister.. but my husband and I , for years now, have begun praying for the future husbands of our two daughters...if the Lord tarries... They are both 11 and 9 now.. but we ask the Lord.. that wherever these two young boys are that they would be preserved and give themselves to Love Him in their youth. That He will cover their homes and supply for this family according to what He sees and according to His riches.

My grandparents were such blessers. As a child I did not understand their blessing for simple things such as bringing a glass of water for them to drink. Or rubbing their feet. Out of that small time..that seemingly little deed, would flow a sweet blessing uttered out of the mouths of a man and woman who loved and cherished the Lord... This Lord.. WHO IS OUR GREATEST BLESSING. May our children be blessed with the word of Christ that comes out of our mouths. May they be blessed seeing us feed and drink of the word before their eyes. May we be such healthy patterns to them.
Isn't it encouraging sister.. that not only do the sins of the parents come upon the children and even the generations following.. BUT the Blessings also come upon the children. My grandparents made a turn away from hinduism, my mother and I as a result came to know the LIVING GOD who is so dear and precious to our hearts. What a blessing!!!!

Ty for posting sister.
Yours in Christ
sandy
