I just recently made my outdoor cat an inside cat. He had been chewed on by a chocolate lab/retriever mix and had open wounds on the back of his neck. It was healing nicely, but he would constantly scratch and groom himself. I took him to the vet after finding a small ringworm on my forearm. That was almost two weeks ago and I have approximately 15 more spots on my legs and arms. He is on an oral medicine to cure the ringworm and pledgets to wipe on the areas. He hasn't been scratching or grooming near as much as he used too and he has brown, flaky, scabs where the ringworm was. Does this mean the ringworm is dead and he's almost over it? I've been using anti-fungal cream and have tried several home remedies and none have seemed to work. He goes to the vet in a week for a check up. I clean the house and disinfect it daily, bathe him twice a week, and wash and disinfect my hands after handling him and after cleaning his litter box. What do you think the both of us should do?

Thanks.

I'm going to have the vet check him out when he goes back. I believe my next option is to shave him. Haha just playing :). I love my kitty.

Ooh, ringworm is the pits, isn't it? I got it right on my chest from a foster kitten who loved sleeping on me at night, and my poor adult cat got it as well. It can be hard to get rid of permanently, but it sounds like you're on the right track. Keep treating yourself and your cat frequently with the clotrimazole, and make sure to shower frequently and change your bed linens often. It can take up to four weeks for skin medications to clear up ringworm. If you and your cat are not clear after four weeks, it may be time for antifungal pills. Good luck!

Fast Ringworm Cure?

You are doing a very good job in taking care of the cat. When the ringworm is finishing, the itching will stop and the skin will become as it was before. Just do what you are doing and everything will be fine.

It takes about 4 weeks to go away in cats, and unfortunately 8 weeks for humans. Keep putting the cream on you three times a day, it does work. Mine last year did take the full two months to disappear. I'd checked with the pharmacist and he verified 8 weeks with humans.

Fingernail polish won't work, and don't try the dabs of bleach, you'll only damage your skin and possibly cause scars. I used micanazole, a 4% solution, which I got for $8 a tube at Walgreens. It worked on both me and the cat.

You mentioned that the cat went to the vet but did you go to the doctor? If not, you should; especially if over the counter antifungal cream is not working. I have heard that covering the area with fingernail polish will do the trick but I would still go to the doctor. You may need to take medication that will fight the fungal infection from the inside out.

Ring worm isn't actaully a worm--it's a fungus.

Go to a dermatologist and they can give you a medicated cream to apply to the affected areas that works quite well. Make sure you follow the directions on the enclosed information sheet. That is--keep using the cream for 2 weeks like they say--even after the symptoms go away. You gotta make sure that the fungus is killed.

well if you have alot of spots then you need to see the doctor you might have to wash with a special soap and shampoo you really should not have more than four on your body. and you and your dog keep giving it back and fourth you both need to be treated at the same time
