I stop and help those I can. If I see someone on the freeway I'll pull over. Or now that snow is back again, I keep my tow hook with me being a 4x4 SUV. If it gets bad, I go out seeking those who are stuck. Not for payment, just to help. And I tell them, " for payment, pass on the good favor when you see another in trouble ".
Why are people like they are? G_D tells us why.
2 Timothy 3:1-7
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of YHWH; Having a form of reverence, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Dear Elijah,
First let me say that it sounds like you are a very kind person and it's great to hear how much you care about other people.
Most of the time when we help people it's through an action (and i'm reminded that our actions happen from the inside-out). When our desire to help others is based on a love for people (i know often i think of Scripture when i see homeless people and people hurting and in need...) we expect nothing in return. Truly more blessed to give than receive.
It really reminds me that little things in life matter a lot. For me i really have a heart for homeless people and somtimes when i stop outside a grocery store on a cold winter night and just talk to a homeless man, women, family, and buy them a meal and offer them a prayer- i wonder how often they've been made to feel loved and just treated like decent human beings.
It's good to know that there are people who care about other people. In our "me-first" "me-centered society" it's refreshing and i encourage you to keep doing it and if you can learn how to do it without expecting anything in return you'll really learn how to have a Christ-like heart in that area.
Kindly,
Nickster

I agree with you. People did not behave in this manner years ago. How things have changed>>sigh.
I, like you would give the shirt off my back. I love to help people and will go out of my way and have done so. I find for the most part, they were grateful but there are some that think things are owed to them (ungrateful). But i don't let it bother me so long as I know in my heart I have done something to help that's fine with me. I feel that the ungrateful ones will sometime in their life realize what being grateful means. May take awhile but in there lives down the road they will. **Karma**
People nowaday seem to live for themselves and only themselves and that is very sad. Life nowadays is so fast paced, so stressful I find that people simply live by what is going on in there own lives, their own worries and stresses take over there life that they forget those that love and care for them and they forget those peoples needs. Its not they don't care or that they are selfish, just they are so wrapped up in todays face pace stressful go go worry worry about this and that, that they don't stop to think of others. Call it selfish I guess.......
YOu have a good heart, don't lose that despite of the fact others are not like you ok??? You will receive good karma for this..Now if someone is really manipulating you or using you in a manipulative way, then of course by all means, that's where you would draw the line with your good heart and put a stop to it..
but..ya..you are a good person and will receive good things in life because of it..
take care

Helping people and getting no thanks for it is hurtful. I know. I've been there, done that. But it doesn't stop me from helping more people if I can without putting my neck on the line. Maybe the people who offered just forgot. I won't defend them but due to the hustle and bustle of life, maybe they just forgot. It won't hurt to remind them.

Sure.
Humans are social creatures. Without these sort of cohesive, empathic 'social contracts' our society would quickly disintegrate.

All the time, actually. Really.
It amazes me how few people even say 'please' and 'thank you'. Everytime I pay for something at a cash my general response is "Thanks, have a great day." and the person behind that cash always looks so startled.
