God the Father, Word & Holy Spirit.
Man is created in the image of God. Man is body, soul & spirit.
When Adam ate of the forbidden fruit, Adam died spiritually (denied the tree of life). Then died physically nearly 1000yrs later. Then his soul went where God puts souls.
So? We also die spiritually when we rebel against Gods love & truth. Our sins seperate us from God. Jesus said we need to be born again. To be born spiritually to see the Kingdom of God again. So? He made a way for us, an atonement for our sins. So when we receive his atonement for our sins, then we are born again. Made Whole; body, soul & spirit. And our bodies are still corruptible. So we need to die to lust of the flesh (not reacting by cussing, etc...) & choose to follow after the Spirit (faith, hope, love, joy, peace, honesty, truth, etc...) We have to make the soul choice to. The Holy Spirit won't force us.
As we continue in following after the Spirit, we mature in Christ & start resembling Christ in all we do.
Also, don't forget, Jesus was the express Image of God. The fulness of God was with Him. If you saw Jesus, you saw the Father.

I think God is a metaphor for Peace, love, kindness and all that human nature needs to thrive.
I dont think he's the bearded guy with sandals and a toga that has become a popular image amongst people and tv shows, even if that's not what certain religions intended.
To be honest if god does exist as a "man in the sky" who's watching and judging us all the time, i wouldnt be too comfortable taking a shower.

When the Bible says that man is created in the image of God- it means that we were created with inherent moral qualities like God in our character. So for example we don't need anyone to teach us that: murder and rape are wrong.
And as our Heavenly father is perfect and eternal- we too have an inherent desire to be perfect (when we get a 99 on a test we automatically want that 100% and each of us would love to live longer)... and so it means that within us God has given us qualities that resemble him.
Blaise Pascale once said that we have a God-shaped hole in our soul that only God can fill.

Humans can never equal God, we can't even compare to how awesome he is. Don't take this too literally. I think it means that he created us originally to be like him by not committing sin (Before Adam and Eve ate the apple they didn't know what sin was). I hope this helps, if I can I will get more information from my dad, he was a pastor but is still a minister.

we have the abillity to know what's wrong and right because of our conscience, we also love,doesn't it mean that there's also a loving Creator that creates us? Yes... our abilitty to love and to be able to know wether we're doing Bad or good is because we are created in the image of God... not literally... because God is a Spirit.... consider the laws of the governments... they are from human minds only. right?... but it teaches us not to kill, not to steal, not to corrupt,.. and that laws are also laws of God...

having the “image” or “likeness” of God means, in the simplest terms, that we were made to resemble God. adam did not resemble God in the sense of God’s having flesh and blood. however, adam’s body did mirror the life of God, insofar as it was created in perfect health and was not subject to death
the image of God refers to the immaterial part of man. it sets man apart from the animal world, fits him for the “dominion” God intended, and enables him to commune with his maker. it is a likeness mentally, morally, and socially.

Most in here mentioned that it refers to your spirit soul of intellect and will. And this is exactly true. However, the Catholic creed adds "Jesus is the visible image of an invisible God."

The same reason a house or any other created thing is made according to the creators liking.We are made in His image becuase it's His preference.
