A friend of mine has a cat that freaks out and pees all over her stuff.

She's tried confinement, positive reinforcement, that "cat calm" aroma therapy thing you plug into the wall, cleaning up the smells with every "odor eater" known to man.

The problem isn't potty training. When he's calm, he uses the box just fine. He's not spraying either. When something scares him, he will run around pouring a urine trail behind him, screaming his fool head off.
There's no predicting his fear/triggers. Really, I've seen this cat go from dead asleep to a crazed peeing monster with no provocation.
He's so freaked out that he's knocked himself unconsious on more than one occasion, and it takes him hours to calm down.

The vet is stumped, made a food recommendation, but no other help.

For Christmas I want to get her a "care package"/basket of other things for her to try. So far, I have kitty diapers, "Urine Gone" cleaner.

What has worked for you?
Recommendations please.

Thank you, but I don't need to hear about calm cats.

I have a calm cat.

My question is about fearful/anxious cats.
Cats that pee on stuff.

Thanks again.

Some vets use Rescue Remedy to calm anxious cats. It is a Bach Flower remedy that you can get at a health food store or vitamin store. It's intended for humans but works on animals too. It is not toxic in any way. It comes in a little dropper bottle and you put a couple of drops in the animal's mouth. It works pretty fast.

** Find a scented candle or burn water with a scent mised in. You wont need alot of scent, because of that cat's sensitive sense of smell.
However you'll need an emission of scent that in every room, so the effect works throughout the cat.

Make sure the cat is unable to knock any over or drink it.

Once the cat is a bit calmer, try cuddling it, and mostly feeding it little low-fat treats, so it recognises you as a safe protector and provider. Evntually take some scent emissions away and see how it goes from there.

** Has for which scent you use, try searching the web, comparing ideas, ask vets, ask animal holistic specialists(they do exist) Also think about other animal relaxation methods such as hiring a animal masseusse or a relaxing music aimed for cats (these all exist too, our pampered pets!)
I'm guessing scents that relax and relive anxiety and stress for humans such as Lavender will also work on cats, there's no reason they would not work, but do you're research!!

Good luck. Also make sure to reward you're cat with food when he goes in the bx, and if he does pee on furniture put him in another room for like 5 minutes with the door closed. Be firm but fair.

Good luck :) xx

I recommend classical music. My psychotic little girl goes right to sleep when I play it. Her brother is in a constant state of calm, so he doesn't count. I just put my computer on www.xlnc1.org (a radiostation online) and let her be. There are also several cds made specifically for cats or pets in general. Also, some cats find catnip calming, while it makes others more neurotic so it mght be worth a try since it's cheap. There are also alternatives, such as Valerian and honey suckle, for those who don't react to nip. A good site for this info is www.catniptoys.com Hope this helps, my leather couch will never be the same after Melody freaked out for the first few days.

there is not any human medicine which you are going to be able to provide a cat that isn't harm them. you will could desire to take the cat to the vet and confer with them approximately his habit and tell them what is going on and how he's appearing. The vet will provide him a verify up and maybe blood artwork and seem for something incorrect if not and that is a habit subject then there is medicine he will provide the cat. R P CAT

Hi!
I find out one great thing that makes cats to calm quickly. It is called Cosmic Cat, there dry leeves. They lick it and get calmer. It helps my cat. I advise to try it, it is not expensive. Don`t give a lot of that staff - just a little.
All the best,
Mika
