Nothing, Its just that In the absence of solid proof of a God I cannot believe in one.
From your question I'm guessing you have never really looked into Atheism, or spoken to many, beyond perhaps semi arguments with those rabid sorts that like to pull apart the beliefs of others in the absence of any themselves - they're like it with any subject, it has nothing to do with theology.
This is my view on atheism;
I see the universe as a ballet of cause and effect, a constantly changing place of massive variation and possibility, where things are only destroyed or cease to be so that they may make room for new possibilites. There is no big goal at the end of this, no plan, no guiding force driving the whole thing along; there doesnt need to be, you dont go for a walk in a park, or climb a mountain to get anywhere, the exercise itself is the reward.
I feel I am lucky enough to be part of a very interesting aspect of this whole thing - life. We are the culmination of billions of years of effort from countless organisms, as well as the inheritors of all the efforts of our forefathers to take us from a creature of survival to a being of civilisation. With that comes a great responsibility- it will all be for nothing if we don't continue the process- it is this that gives me the motivation to try to lead a moral life, and to maintain a sense of social responsibility.
I have no problem with you believing in a God, one of the strengths of atheism is that we are able to acknowledge that a human can be utterly convinced of something, yet turn out to be utterly wrong, it is a pity that many theists seem unable to do the same.

They are not bitter. It's arrogant for you to make such an assumption. Now you have just set us back, friend.
Early in the evening, someone asked a question about things we could all do to make things better around here. One was not to make false assumptions, such as you have just done.
Most atheists are happy people. They have a different belief than theists do.
I know some Christians who are pretty bitter.
I have seen some atheists here who are bitter towards us.
You have just made a contribution towards making them bitter. What happened to YOU that you're so rude?
I apologize to those of you who are atheists. Please don't think we are all like this. We aren't.

Hey all ! Homophobic Francine is back !
"Thou doth protest TOO much ?"
Francines got a girlfriend , Francine's got a girlfriend ! LOL
Hey Francine that "boyfriend" the same Homophobic one that was worrying about if Atheist men could be strong enough to carve a turkey ? Who is he thinking about tonight . Tom Cruise ?
Hope you guys get your work about gay atheists published in a scientific journal !
By the way what are your qualifications besides a 10th grade education ?
BTW most homosexuals don't think "God" was unfair to them . Just the ones like you and your "boifriend" who are having trouble fitting into a heterosexual lifestyle . You use Religion as an excuse for not having heterosexual sex . But all the while you are thinking about homosexuality . You bring up homosexuality in questions that have nothing to do with it , such as this one . Your "boifriend" is thinking about gay guys that are too weak to carrve a turkey while he's on a date with you . Boy he must really be attracted to you ! LOL

Not all atheists are bitter, just like not all christians are complete ignorant pricks. Some people just don't believe in god and don't even consider themselves atheist, they just don't care either way. But most of the time atheists that are bitter oppose religion because they believe it oppresses other people. ( I assume you think atheists are bitter because of the atheists that oppose religion )

Having no knowledge or lack of good knowledge in God, makes one an Atheist. I accept my being an atheist.
Bitter, because I don't know how to come over this fix?

Learn the definition of "bitter". Calling someone an idiot for trying to get me to believe in talking snakes is not bitter behaviour.

No one has the right to preach their beliefs to others and say everyone else is wrong if they do not think the same way you do on Religion. You should not enforce your religious beliefs on others. They will decide for themselves. What makes you think your beliefs are right or the way of the world? Everyone has a mind of their own and will believe what they deem right for them. Not bitter, just believe in independent thinking and not expecting everyone to think your beliefs are the only way to think.

Im not atheists but I DO have to say that not all of them are bitter. How can you say that. Just because someone has a different beleif than you means that theyre living a bad life. I know people who are antheists and theyre living life to the FULLEST, some of them are even happier than me and I BELEIVE in God. So before you try to judge ones belief you REALLY need to make sure youre right. People are so close-minded now a days...

I'm not bitter!
I'm very positive about life, and would like to be proactive about the present rather than wandering around mumbling to invisible sky deities.
You don't need to hallucinate about dead people floating around fantastical cloud palaces to be positive.

I think it would be a mistake to assume all people who fail to believe in a deity are bitter.
Personally, there have been many things in my life that COULD have made me bitter, but I see life as opportunity, not disappointment. I hope everyone can experience the joy that attitude brings.
