I had my cat neutered last spring, when he was almost a year and a half. I wanted to do it the year before, but my husband thought it was cruel. So when he got an infection and I took him to the vet, I just had her do it while he was there (he had to stay overnight anyway). Anyway, the last week or so, he has suddenly started trying to have sex with my blanket. He bites it and goes through the motions. I know, that's just weird, especially considering there are a lot of female cats outside, where he spends most of his time (we only claim him, but feed about 5 others to keep them out of our trash). He shows no interest in the other cats, so why is he so interested in my blanket? I am 12 weeks pregnant with twins, could it be my hormones? There are no traces of human sex in the bed (sorry if tmi) because my husband is away right now and has been since the day we got pregnant, so I don't think that could have anything to do with it. Is this normal, or is my cat perverted?

Well, this may be duplicating the other answers a bit, but I say not to worry either, but it's never a bad idea to talk to your vet about it. When in doubt - check it out! My neutered adult male cats (I've had about five throughout my life and 2 now) have always been frisky with stuffed animals, pillows, blankets - even bunches of clothes. They'll purr and kneed at the same time (pretty kinky) and then get over it and groom themselves for awhile. I think since your cat was neutered a bit late, it could definitely play a role with why he's doing it so often. He might do it forever, he might not. I don't think they seek out a mate like they would if they were not neutered, so that might explain why he just gets his kicks off a domestic blanket, etc. p.s. Now you can blame it all on your hubby - you might want to let him know that that it is more cruel to take away an animal's manhood when their old enough to know it's getting taken away! The younger the better.

I've had neutered male cats and while this is not the way they normally behave, it's not unknown. I suspect your cat's behavior resulted from being neutered at a later age so he did have a chance to become sexually mature. There's got to be something in that blanket that's arousing him. Perhaps it's the texture or the smell that's setting him off. Sometimes neutered male animals will go through the motions of sexual behavior if they find the right triggers for it.

Keep kitten in a quiet room for a few days, just to allow in inner stitches to heal and the outer a chance to mesh. Also make sure there is nothing too high for the kitten to jump around on as this may stretch the wound and possibly open it up . Check it twice a day to see if there is any infection. Kittens are very resilient and heal well, I don't think you will have any problems apart from your 8 yr old trying to pick it up, let it sit on their lap but not lift it, you do that, but only for about a week or until the stitches are out.

Don't worry about it. Ignore your cat or if it really bothers you then distract him from the behaviour with toys or something else. Some cats (and dogs!) will still masturbate even if neutered. My roomates cat used to do this (also to a blanket) - aside from being a socially awkward thing in the human world it's not a problem for your cat.

It's normal. My male gets excited on my fuzzy bath robe if I let it lay on the end of the bed. He gets the urge maybe 3 times a year. Some males never get feeling sexy after neutering, others keep the feeling a little and will act on it but they're shooting blanks so no kittens.

Not to worry.

i only know of one other cat to have acted in this fashion...our male cat baby moses. he was found in the outer lobby of the post office in a plastic basket with a can of milk and a hand towel by our friend the post mistress. (thus the name babymoses). he had some injuries and was very hungry and his eyes werent yet opened (they opened 5 days later) i ended up cutting one toe off that was just hanging on by a thread of skin. we pampered and loved and raised him on kitten formula. but it wasnt until he reached sexual maturity that he went from kneading the fuzzy blankets and purring to acting out sex with the blanket. the really strange part happened when he went into heat and actually inticed our tom and allowed the tom to mount him. that is when i learned about hermaphroditism. now, i dont know if your kitty has such a problem or not, but i thought i would share my story with you since it made me think of it. there might simply be just enough hormoses left in him to make him feel "funny". talk to your vet about it. see what she says.

It's normal. I had a cat that did it also. But with pillows too... which was gross.. lol
but I just pushed him off the pillows/blankets whenever he would and that.. lol
I think it was because he was neutered late.
