I would really like to volunteer somewhere in my community, but i have NO IDEA where to start and what to do.
I'm in high school and live in Phoenix, Arizona. I'm really wanting to do something with women or younger kids, maybe with a disability or something.
Any suggestions or ideas???
thanks :]

As one of the people here said, a hospital is a good start but you can also check your local churches as they are very involved with the community. The food banks are always looking for volunteers and some churches offer this service to their community, I found this to be my passion, I met wonderful people, made new friends and learned to appreciate what I have and helped me to be a more compassionate person towards others. Good for you for wanting to do this and I hope you find something that suits you.

Go to your local animal shelter.I have been there for 2 years and I love it.Being there has made me decide to be a vet tech. The animals will love you for it and its so much fun.For the last two days I have been working with a 4 week Rott. puppy. He has a neurological problem possibly and just spending time with him and helping him with his basic needs is so rewarding.Holding the little guy while he went to sleep was so sweet.

VolunteerMatch (http://www.volunteermatch.org), Idealist (http://www.idealist.org) and CraigsList (http://www.craigslist.com) all list volunteering opportunities with thousands of organizations. These are great places to look for volunteering opportunities. Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site.
