Yes, the woman would definitively be commiting a terrible sin. This is a lesson in evil begetting evil. As evil as rape is, it still does not justify the even greater evil of the murder of an unborn human being. The unborn are not responsible for the circumstances surrounding their conception.

The Church, and by extension - God, would only forgive the woman if/when she repents for the sin of abortion.

Yes, she would indeed be committing a mortal sin by aborting her child simply because that child's father was a rapist.

It is very difficult for women in such situations to persevere and continue with the pregnancy, mostly because they have little or no support from family, friends or medical professionals. The pressure to abort is enormous, and people literally recoil in horror when they find that the rape victim is pregnant. Perhaps you feel that way, too -- that it disgusts you to think of a woman carrying a child conceived in rape to term.

The Church, however, does NOT behave that way. Rape victims who become pregnant are welcomed, loved and cared for. They will be provided shelter, food, clothing, emotional support, and even money to pay for doctor bills so that carrying the child to term is as easy as possible. And the Church will also provide help if the woman chooses to relinquish her baby for adoption, or any assistance she might need in raising the child herself if she wishes to do so.

The Church does not hold children accountable for the sins of their parents, and so the Church says that the child conceived in rape is not responsible for the rape, is not guilty of any sin, and is just as worthy of life and love as any other child.

Now then, regarding forgiveness, yes, forgiveness is available to sinners who freely admit their sin and repent of it wholly, which means they regret it. Feasibly, this could mean that a rape victim who aborts the child conceived in rape and is NOT sorry about it may never be truly forgiven.

>> If a devout catholic woman was raped ,would she be
>> commiting a sin if she got an abortion?

It doesn't matter who the woman is. Getting an abortion simply because of a pregnancy which resulted from rape is murder. Adding one wrong on top of another wrong doesn't make it right. If the woman cannot face raising a child of rape, then all she has to do is give it up for adoption. It is easier for the majority of people to understand that, than for them to understand a woman murdering her baby -- and it is *her* baby.

>> If she decided to get an abortion would the church and god
>> forgive her?

It doesn't matter if the church forgives her. The only thing important is whether God will forgive her. It would probably be harder for her to forgive herself than for God to forgive her. We all know that God is always able to forgive the truly repentant sinner.

God bless.

Yes.

Rape is a horrible crime against a woman.

The victim needs to heal, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Any new human life is a miracle of God even when the miracle happens when connected with the crime of rape.

The murder of this innocent and defenseless person created in the image and likeness of the Creator will do nothing but increase the rape victim's physical, mental, and spiritual pain and suffering.

The rape victim also implicates everyone involved in the murder. This includes the health care workers and possibly even her family and friends.

While bringing the baby to term and giving him or her up for adoption will make the victim into a hero in the eyes of the child, the adoptive parents, the community, and God and go a long way towards her physical, mental, and spiritual health.

Abortion is in direct opposition to the Dignity of the Human Person, and thus to Christianity--not to mention is an insult to the Creator. It would be a mortal sin if committed, especially with full knowledge of what the Church teaches.
give her an option out-

Project Rachel is also great. http://www.hopeafterabortion.com/
Also the story of St. Gianna Molla is a great comfort to many.

I'll be praying for her. I cannot even begin to understand her pain, but she must be a very strong person to even spend the time in debate about this...God will give her strength.

There are no acceptances when it comes to abortion. God creates all humans.

If she got a abortion after wards the church may forgive her, now if she ask God He will forgive her.

Abortion is nothing more than murder.

In the Book of Jeremiah it speaks on this subject, God says,
"I knew you in the womb. God has a plan for the birth's of all children when they are born.

God doesn't like abortion. What these doctors do they place a suction attached to you area of delivery and they suck out the brains and body of these children.

The church would probably see it as a sin because she is pregnant with a living person but I don't think anyone has the power to say what God would or would not forgive

Yes, the Church would officially consider the abortion a sin. All confessed sins are forgiven in confession. Remember that rapists and murderers confess their sins in prison.

I won't speak for God. That would be a tad presumptuous of me.

In religious eyes, the rape is not her sin, the abortion would be.

Our God is a forgiving God and IF she would ever consider abortion and have a repentful heart God would forgive her. As foar as the church, I'm not Catholic.

Yes it would be a sin. Murder is murder whether committed to an already born person or to one not yet born. God gives life as a gift. It is not up to us to destroy what God has given. One passage from scripture has God telling man that "I knew you in the womb...". that is telling us that God sees us as life from the time of of conception. If God considers us to be a life at that time, then shouldn't we also. It would not be for us or the Church to judge, condemn, or forgive this woman. That is all totally Gods' realm.
