In My live by Bill Clinton he said that people always ask him why he isn't a catholic, and they say he acts like one. What are the core political and social beliefs of catholics. Also what are some generalizations you can make about them? ONLY good things, not bad.

General Beliefs of Catholics

1. I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

2. And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

3. Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary:

4. Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell:

5. The third day he rose again from the dead:

6. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

7. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:

8. I believe in the Holy Ghost:

9. I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints:

10. The forgiveness of sins:

1l. The resurrection of the body:

12. And the life everlasting. Amen.

I would also like to add that Catholics do not worship Mary we ask her to pray for us just as you would ask a family member to pray for you. Jesus himself said this IS my body and this IS my blood during the last supper not this represents my body and blood. The bible also says that After his resurrection, Jesus passed on his mission to forgive sins to his ministers, telling them "As the Father has sent me, even so I send you. . . . Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained" (John 20:21–23).

HI. You specifically state in your question "only good things ,not bad" Have a look at some of the answers .If they cant say anything good ,they should not answer the question, right ? And these people call themselves "Christians"I am a Catholic and i am fed up with trying to explain about what we do and why we do it ,but they take no notice.I have never come across a more stubborn group of people in my life. When will they learn to accept what we tell them? I really think they don't want to know because they are jealous that the Catholic (Universal) Church was the first Church started by God when he gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. Some members protested about the doctrine and broke away to form their own (Protestant) denomination.Even today they are still protesting about the Catholic Church.

There are two kinds of Catholics just like there are two kinds of Protestants: those who are true believers in the Gospel of Christ, and those who claim membership for some social/political purpose. Examples: Mother Theresa Vs. Ted Kennedy.

Bill Clinton would be the Ted Kennedy type - or cafeteria Catholic. They pick and choose what teachings work with their lifestyle. Then they will perform some external public display of religion to attract other shallow Catholics to support them.

The core social/political beliefs are that we have an obligation to love our fellow man, as Christ did, and to live Godly lives in which we pray, receive the sacraments, and share in the fellowship of the faith with other Catholics. We reject the killing of the innocent unborn; uphold the sacredness of human life; take responsibility to care for all that God entrusts to us; and participate in activities to promote justice and service to the poor, the weak, and those suffering.

Like good Protestants, we want God to be glorified by what we say and what we do.

When people say that they are referring particularly to irish catholics, Irish catholicism is very community-centred, Bill Clinton in his foreign policy particularly worked to broker peace and a sense of community, particularly between palestine and israel and North and Southern Ireland. Irish Catholics are more socialist then other christians or catholics, this is more about culture than catholicism per-se, whilst protestantism is more capitalistic.

On the flipside, people could also disparagingly call bill clinton a catholic, referring to his libido and infidelity, which is an historically common dispersion cast by non catholics. And if you look at the sex-culture of many catholic countries, like latin-america, or italy, you'll see why.

Being Catholic you believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior, that He is the son of God, that He suffered, died and was resurrected. We also believe that He is present in the Host, that it is not just a symbol. We also believe that His mercy is infinite.

We also DON'T believe in standing on street corners hollering at people that they are going to hell. We believe that that is God's choice alone and only He can know someones heart. We are all sinners, so we have no right to judge someone else. We pray for the salvation of everyone, dead or alive, regardless of what sins they might have committed in life. We pray for mercy for all.

Watch this 2 minute video for a better look at Catholics. It's the Nicene Creed said at every mass.

Well, this isn't really good or bad, but every single one of my friends who was raised Catholic (and I have a lot of very close friends that were raised Catholic) feel guilty about EVERYTHING, including things they have no control over, had no choice in, and couldn't change no matter what happened. They feel guilty about everything and obsess over whether they've hurt someone, when they obviously have done nothing to cause anyone harm. And they have a very, very hard time just letting go of that guilt and accepting that they did nothing wrong and aren't responsible for everything.

Having the sacrament of confession makes some Catholics think they have a get out of jail free card.

They are anti-abortion, pro-life in public.

Only good?? hmmmm....

Incense smells nice... Churches are very decorative....

Politically, they'll support anyone who lines up with the pope's doctrine.

They have seveeral outreach programs for the edlerly and infirmed.

They worship Mary, eat Jesus while he's inside a wafer, confess their sins to a mortal man, and they think they have more authority than the holy bible. All these things are actually quite cool and I wish the other Christians would do the same.
