Jesus said He would - here is the key:
"If you love me (Jesus), you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.....Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him....If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me."
John 14:15-18;21,23-24

First you must assume it is possible (belief not faith). Then you have to hold out for what you read in the Bible and ignore what other people say it says.
Actually you cannot exercise faith until you have been spoken to. Many pretend, individually and in concert, that they have been spoken to; mistaking the promptings of the imagination for real contact. Others claim to speak for God. The true voice of God will open your personal understanding of Scripture to the point of a personal ongoing conversation.
Don't discount that a word may come through others; but you will know it is for you, and no one else, because of what is contained in the statement. It will address your life history and personal essence from a view that no one else has or could ever have knowledge of. It will also match Scripture.
God is eternal. Olden days and future days do not exist when it comes to your question. There is only now. I like the audible and Scriptural conversation; and am not fond of those who say they feel prompted, led or even spoken to about this or that ministry or this or that project or revelation.
Hardly a day has gone by in the past 1,800 years when someone hasn't said that God told him or her to build a new church, start a new program or foster a new revelation.
It is not that God does not interact personally. Rather, individuals no longer set their hearts to interact personally; after dismissing the possibility from their minds.

Because, in the olden days, the people who were interacting with him were either on drugs or hallucinating...it just so happened that back then, people were more willing to accept mad men as prophets. But can we say the same about the wise and enlightened Boxcar Johnson the Third, who sits outside the liquor store, rambling about our Winged Hippo Overlords, who reside behind the clouds? No. So remember that, next time you hear the ravings of a crazy person...they might just be right....

it never did interact with us. in the past natural disasters and other things that we can easily explain now were not understood, so they attributed it to some god.
every year we are learning more of the universe and getting closer to some sort of enlightenment that maybe when achieved will put an end to blameing everything on an intelligent being rewarding/punnishing us.
although I'm sure that if a god existed, he'd pop round and have a cup of tea with every one of us and ask how we're doing, then get all vengefull and wipe us out with fire from the sky.

Growing up I thought my parents were old and would ask them about THEIR olden days, Funny now that my grandchildren ask me the same questions. I guess the time I was a child are my olden days. Poppy

They are not on drugs or hallucinating, they are telling as it is, Why? Can't you accept it or are you being difficult?
You are not in the circle if you don't know that God does speak to us as of the old days. He is the same Yesterday, today and tommorow.
He only speaks to His prophet or His Call and Chosen one. It is hard for you to accept it for only the Children of God understand. Are you one, yet ? Nope , I can't believe that you are one.
Strange as you are to us, but we understand.

God is Holy and no one can see His face. He does interact with us through His Son Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the mediator between us and God. This is why all Blessings and Prayers should be ask in the name of Jesus.
Remember what Jesus said, "No man can come to the Father unless this person comes through Me."

Christians will make the excuse that we've driften too far from God blah blah blah. Considering that people were even more wicked in the past, why would God not interact with us now? People were so wicked God had to wash them all away with a giant flood. So the excuse that people are too sinful nowadays doesn't apply.
The truth is that God is imaginary. And that's why he doesn't interact with people like he did in the fairy book.

dear lady. God is the same today, yesterday and tomorrow. He does not change. it is man's view of Him that changes. God's plan of salvation for mankind has been fulfilled by Jesus Christ.
if i understand you correctly you are assuming that God no longer speaks directly with a person as it appears He does in the Bible?... yes He does...open your heart to Jesus and i guarantee you that at times you will hear God speaking to you personally.
