Your b/f has a serious lack of self confidence. It may stem from someone in his life being overly critical of what he does/doesn't do.

What is going on inside his head is somewhere (Lord only knows where) he got the idea that he is all the things you mentioned. Suggest you talk to a teacher or guidance counselor to see if they can help you help him see his good side.

This trait is common in both boys and girls; but more often is found in boys. Other trends are that those who have this problem are often living in a world of criticism.

Either way, this is too much for you to take on by yourself.

So he just keeps trying to put himself down? It sounds like he is trying to get all of the compiments from you as he can. Have you asked him why he is doing it. It could have had someone insulted him that was close to him and he had nothing to say back. So he just sucked it all in about what the person said. Or he may want more attention from you.

its the same way with my girlfriend, no matter what i tell her she always says shes ugly, fat, stupid, etc. there really isn't anything you can do other than complement them. they just have self-esteem issues and there isn't anythig you can say that will make it change. so long as it isn't to a point where they get deeply depressed about it just let it happen and say no you are being stupid. if they get depressed about it, then they probably need counseling.
