A friend, who is a nurse, raises show dogs. She lives in an area where there are a lot of skunks and her dogs will often get sprayed. She had tried several different odor removers including the old treatment of tomato juice. She said that she found that using a strong solution of Masengil duche powder worked the best. She mixes it up in a garden sprinkler can and soaks her dogs coat with it. She lets it stand for several minutes to give it time to work and then bathes the dog with regular dog shampoo. She says it works quite well and is cheaper than the stuff that is sold in vet supply and pet stores. If it works on her dogs, I'm sure it would work on a human and on clothing that has skunk spray on it.

My good old Golden Retriever seemed to attract skunks. She even managed to tangle with one right in the middle of a college campus.

I wish I'd known about "Nature's Miracle" back then.

Good Luck. I believe someone mentioned that the smell will renew itself when you take a bath. Unfortunately, it will probably do that for months.

Tell your wife she has my sympathies as well.

One way to get it out of dogs is to use the smoke from smoldering leaves (autumn leaves). Tomato juice will work and cut the smell, but it seems to come back when you bathe.

Petco and stores like that have some stuff called "Natures Miracle" that will remove the nasty smell of strong cat urine (or male cat spray). I've used it before and it works great!
