I've been that shoulder, yes. I've had several strangers start crying in my presence, and I've tried to be comforting. Mostly, it happened with elderly people. Sometimes, they feel as if they've been utterly forgotten. Another time, though, it was a teenage girl. I try to listen and be as non-judgmental and gentle as I possibly can.

Yes. Because this is the raw display of human emotion and is one of the ways that you can best become aware of yourself. This is an awesome experience because you are selflessly giving someone something that they need. You may never see them again, you may never have anyone else know that you were there for them in that moment, but it will mean the world to them that there was someone who cared about a person so much that they were a shoulder to cry on.

Well, since I'm a granny, and
since I love to talk, and since
I'm very friendly. and since I ride the bus everywhere....this scenario happens all the time.
I listen, help if I can, I never
witness. If the Holy Spirit wants me to say something
special, He will tell me what to say.
A few times the talks started
out nice, then I knew I was
dealing with a psychopath.
Since I have a lot of experience in helping these
people, it never frightens me,
I just miss my bus and keep
talking.

In my case, that is not a hypothetical question. It's happened more times than I care to think about. I've heard stuff from total strangers that would make a priest blush.
I just figure if someone is that desperate, maybe I'm preventing another Omaha tragedy by taking the time to listen to them. Or maybe I just don't move fast enough to escape. ;-)

Yes.Im always that person .Why well once something horrible and I mean headline news horrible happened to me and I needed to talk.Someone listened.A old lady at the laundrymat and Ive been that way ever since. We are people we should care about other people.Ive taken in homeless people too but I couldnt get them to quit drinking.Still I dont regret it .They could of died or gotten raped if I hadnt let them stay with me for a while. It doesnt hurt me to listen.I give good advice plus people always want to tell me about their surgerys and bad test results ect.I listen its part of being human. Im careful and use common sense.

If they were being serious, yes. I tend to be able to offer up some light, or a new viewpoint in a situation that is often overlooked, and they might appreciate that.

In the beginning, I would think it is weird, and probably would stay on guard, but If I see it is sincere, yes, for sure.
Peace!
