From the details in your question, I would guess that you are in the health care profession. Kudos to you for helping others throughout the year, and especially at the holidays. It must mean so much to those who cannot be home for Christmas to be surrounded by caring people who wouldn't go home if they could.
We aren't doing any celebrating this year, just a quiet day at home with the kids. I hosted Thanksgiving dinner, and of yet we haven't been invited anywhere for Christmas.

Two ideas: (1) If any organization in your community serves Christmas dinner to poor people, volunteer to help with it (both of you). (2) Check whether your church is having a potluck Christmas dinner for members like you and your husband. If it's not, try to organize one. Or just look for a few friends who will also be alone on Christmas and invite them to a potluck dinner on your own. No room? Do you know a single person with a big house who will be alone? Would she be willing to host the affair if the others do all the cooking, set-up, and clean-up? If neither of these ideas is feasible, rent or borrow a DVD or video of some version of A Christmas Carol and snuggle down with your husband to watch it. Or maybe you won't even have to get your own copy. It will probably be playing some time that day. A final thought: Is this your first Christmas with your husband? If it is, it's a perfect opportunity to start your own traditions, maybe combining your favorites from both families.

On the 22nd and 23rd, I'm going to be playing some music for services where I attend church.
I work Christmas eve - because I am a music director at a different church. Christmas morning is spent with my husband and child, and then in the afternoon we are all going to my mum's house (7 siblings, all with spouses and kids ) -- more of a "melee" Christmas, than merry Christmas!
The day AFTER Christmas is my quiet Christmas time -- we wake up and make coffee and take a long walk in the woods in the morning, and that evening just we three will have a great roasted duck dinner.
Good times.

me and the protoplasm that might be a dog, (waiting on DNA to come back) are going to drift a few hundred miles and find some trees and forest and such.
i'm going to be clearing a fire break (removing undergrowth) and tearing an old mobile home part (in peices to preserve the trees) and dragging it out by hand to have it hauled off.
I hope to not hear any traffic, screaming or hollering like goes on at family get togethers and to basically have a totally isolated christmas.
for the last 5 years, i have missed almost every holiday due to deployment and i have gotten to where I don't miss it anymore.
I suppose i'm the old dude that armed with bowditch or dickens, tolkien, lewis, poe, or so many others is happy to sit and read.
funny, i would never have thought my retirement would be clearing fire breaks and actually being happy i'm there.

Hi. Are you a doctor or nurse? I take it you work in a hospital setting somewhere.
In my immediate family there are 2 that work in health care and
2 that work shift work even on the holidays ....so I am used to working around schedules and shifts.
It happens that everyone will be off on Christmas Day! So,
my husband and I will have our son & daughter-in-law, and our daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids (3 yrs. & 6 yrs.) over for Christmas dinner!
I live far away from my own siblings and parents (8 hr. car ride) and my husband's family is....well...."different"...so I'm glad at least my son and daughter live nearby and the grandkids!
But....I always DO think of those people working on Christmas Eve/Day.
Blessings to you and Merry Christmas!

actually I am going to take a long leave from 19 - 26! Here there are two OFF-day across the week end. the 20 & 25.
That's why I have proposed to have more christmas day to facilitate some other sects of Jingle bells belief.
peace

We celebrate Yule all 12 nights - not Christmas day. So my sister, Mom and I will go to Yosemite and spend the day (hoping we don't get snowed in or out). If it's snowing, we'll watch DVDs all day, take a dinner over to the clerk working at the mini-mart and just be together.

Chances are that Christmas Day I'll be alone. Because of our growing family and our busy schedules we get together a week or so before Christmas to celebrate Christmas.

I will be alone as I am currently single and do not live with my parents. I'd prefer not to come and descend on them... in my family's general opinion Christmas is for kiddies and I am 36.
I guess you are a doctor or nurse. Don't lose that perfect skin of yours with overwork.

I have no family except for an elderly aunt and a few cousins. I will either be alone or will go to my best friend's house.
Both parents are dead, my identical twin is dead, and it's just me and Shenandoah and Humble (my cats).
I will be thinking of you and wishing you well. Take care of yourself.
Hey, your friendship is one of my presents! So all is well.
