What do J.W.'s think about Christian news reports? I assume since it comes from 'Christendom', it is an abomination. If this is true, where DO they get current event news from? Sources they 'trust'?

Christian radio and TV stations regularly broadcast current news. I assume thr JW's do not listen, since they would label it 'Christendom, which is a derogatory term. 'Christendom' to JW's is anathema. So, WHICH news do they trust, in order to support their many predictions for the future?

Jehovah's Witnesses don't trust any other publications from orthodox religions at all. They get their consistant news from the "Watchtower Society", which releases two issues of both the 'Watchtower' and 'Awake!' (Religious magazines. The 'Watchtower' is infamous for being used during their door-to-door preaching). They claim that their headquarters in Bethel, New York is being 'guided' by God, and that he is speaking to them through his 'annointed servants' that happen to be the leaders of the religion. How conveniant.

I used to be one until last year. If you have any more questions or want to know ways to prove them wrong, ask away.

Congratulations. You have made Jehovah's heart glad. What has helped me as a servant of Jehovah is study study study. Association with the congregation is a must. And, with association comes being mild, and forgiving. I served as a ministerial servant, and when you do you can get a lot of counsel. Take the counsel in, and use it. And, find joy in the service. In all seriousness, service is a refreshment. One thing that has been a personal benefit to me is prayer. My most cherished moments is when I pour my heart out to Jehovah. Remember all the things in the Bible, and remember Jehovah won't be shocked if you have sincere petitions. I hope this helps. I've enjoyed the book "Bearing Thorough Witness About God's Kingdom" It was a great book. We are studying that book now as you know. Keep up with the study of it. It really is a well written and informative book. Peace my brother.

They read their newspapers like everybody else.
They watch the news like everybody else.
They read the news on the internet like everybody else.

Unlike some shallow minds out there would believe, the Watchtower and Awake are not newspapers or bulletins that report on all events that happen around the world.
For a bi-weekly publication they too thin to contain all the info that could span 2 weeks worth of news. Sure, they sometimes focus on certain events.

Besides, which are the news YOU can trust?
You can tune to any channel to get the news, its the debates and the spin around those events that they don't trust.

I am One of Jehovah's Witnesses, I don't view "Christian news reports", But I read McClain's, Time Magazine, National Geographic, Scientific America, Discovery and Watchtower and Awake! I also watch the news sometimes but not always because it can be very depressing. I watch docs, when ever I have the time. I don't trust everything I read or watch but personally I am a natural skeptic. People all to often assume we are ignorant or afraid, but reality is knowledge is our backbone. Especially when it comes to the bible. You can believe what you what to believe about us, it will not change who we really are.

I hope I have answered your questions adequately...
Do you trust all the things you read and view? Journey Well...

Well I have a bunch of them in the family, been to their houses during news time a million times. CNN seems to be a favorite, and the local evening news. From what I can tell and everything I have heard they don't have any special requirements on what news shows they can watch.

"unsilenced lamb" says we are not allowed to listen to christian radio, or view christian news.

More than likely the 5058 in June and the 2540 in July here in U.S.A. that's what they listened to and read before becoming Jehovah's Witnesses, once they started studying using their Bible they soon found they were not getting the truth from "christendom" as you like to say.

Myself I keep up with things happening in the world with other literature and all the T.V. news stations.

"...an abomination..."?

Hardly.

Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians.

Each Jehovah's Witness chooses for himself whether he will interest himself in current events, and which news sources he personally will consider. It seems rather elemental to note that the publications of Jehovah's Witnesses have quoted from dozens or hundreds of different non-Witness news sources for more than a century, and in fact many of those quotes were from articles explicitly opposed to the work of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Perhaps the questioner is unaware that Jehovah's Witnesses have long maintained an Office of Public Information, intended specifically to assist researchers, news organizations, and journalists.

I certainly do use tools beyond the Watchtower, but none that involve [participating] in another religion.
One such tool I love is:
http://www.mf.no/bibel/vines.html
which has been quoted from in the Watchtower before.

I also subscribe to other mags, read newspapers, watch tv, use the internet, and play video games.

Jehovah's Witnesses have the mother-load of things to keep them occupied by their society, that there is not time for other things. They are not allowed to listen to Christian radio, or view christian news. If they did, they might find out the real truth of the gospel, and the organization can not have that happening.
