Lately, I've been in a situation where I just want to give up on things. I can't seem to get things to go my way and it is really hard to keep running the course to a point where I want to give up. I've heard of self-motivation, but can someone please tell me how I can pursue further when I don't feel like moving onward?

I've been in the same situation and only one thing has kept me going and with a happy heart. I know that the path I am on is the will of God. How, because I pray to Him and talk with Him every day and night and I am sure that He is guiding me. It is not meant for me to be able to see what He has in store, but i know that all good things come from Him and He will bless me for my faith.

I feel like that too nowadays, but I know I can't give up, I've been given this opportunity and throwing it all away because I don't want to go any further does not define who I am. I think the best way to motivate yourself is to go back and reflect the turmoil in your life and when it has been your best times and where it has gone downhill from there.

Then think about your priorities, balance it out with your social life and keep a positive altitude, keeping yourself fresh and not holding back on something new. As human beings we will never be satisfied, but keeping a positive altitude and the right priorities will make things easier.

Usually finding the right buttons can change your life.... looking foward to a new date, new event, an upcoming trip, usually takes away some of those negative feelings.

While I'm certain our situations are different, I've been going through the same type of desire.

I was recently diagnosed with cancer of the head and neck (I've never smoked and rarely drank) and the treatment protocol has been brutal (radiation treatments 5 days a week and heavy chemo once a week). I can no longer taste the difference in any food, I'm so tired I can't even describe the level to someone who hasn't went through it, and depression is a constant battle.

So, how do I do it?

Well, I handle it a few different ways. First, I note that the condition is real, it's not just imaginary (in other words, you probably don't want to feel the way you do but you DO). Secondly, I pray -- a lot. I'm a pastor so you might expect this but even before I was ordained I prayed and I've seen some amazing things. Next, I checked with my doctor to see if there was a chemical imbalance that could be corrected. You can do the same thing and, if there is, it can be treated -- nothing wrong with being treated for something that's hindering you. Finally, in moments when I feel stronger, I ask others to help me when they see that I'm getting weaker or when I ask for help (this may mean that you temporarily allow someone to 'bug' you for your own good.

In your case, it may be simply that you need some rest and perspective. Have you tried talking to someone who isn't directly involved with your pursuit or, if that's not possible, someone who has more experience or whose maturity level you trust.

Hope one or more of these suggestions help.

I've definitely been there. I'm not sure how to do it, but if you keep going, you might be able to get past it. Also, with me it was because I was suffereing from major depression. One of the big symptoms is lack of motivation and interest. If you think you could be depressed, there are lots of things that could help you get better. I recommend talking to someone if you think that might be the case.

When the motivation leaves, the discipline has to kick in. It certainly helps if you know WHY you are doing something. If your purpose is bigger than yourself, you will keep going, no matter what. I like the "one foot in front of the other" phrase, one step at a time. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. ;- )

step outside of yourself and ask yourself how would u motivate some one with this problem ? u probably would say things like u can do it, u are stronger than that, dont give up u made it this far dont quit now. Talk out loud to yourself like u are another person and say these things and more positive things and u will make it.

self motivation and perseverance are two different things. to persevere is to keep trying. the only thing i can say is that "life is tough , but you have to be tougher" in the end the satisfaction you get from have held together is worth all your pain and effort now be strong and get going!!

It's natural to be discouraged when things are tough. A commitment to a tough ideal makes you work all the harder. I committed to the military and yes it was tough at times. 21 years later, the rewards are worth it. Look to the rewards and keep going.

You must know the reason why you want to keep going
You must have an objective at the end that will be rewarding. If you don't then you will give reasons not to keep going.

Redefine what you really want in life. Is it money? Is it happiness? What is going to get you there? Does your current situation reflect these goals? After answering these questions, you will find yourself closer to the answer you seek.
