no new tattoo's below the elbow. then it cannot be seen while in uniform. the navy is cracking down on this. my hubby was given info from his captain last year about this. also depending on where and what you want tattooed, you may have to fill out a chit for approval.
as for a sleeve tattoo, fill out a chit and see what happens. my neighbor's arms are totally covered and he is still adding to them. talk to your CO and see what he says. HE is the one to approve it or not. hopefully you have a tattoo'd Captain! good luck...i love tattoo's
one more thing...to help motivate you. since my hubby joined the navy, he has gotten several tattoo's with no issues what so ever. dont get all upset about it yet. wait and see what happens

the army must have different rules than all the other branches. because in the army...you can have a tattoo as long as it cant be seen in your ACU's or dress uniform. so..not on the back of your neck or on your hands.
my husbands battle from basic and AIT has sleeves on both arms, a tattoo across his chest, and a back peice. and thats not including the tattoo above his knee of a trucker lady, one on his ankle, and one on the side of his leg. in other words...pretty much anywhere is aloud unless it can be seen in uniform. haha
that army is a lot less strict.

it really depends on what command your with, when i was in my old unit you had to route a request chit to get any kind of tattoo, and i saw several guys (and girls) get busted for getting them, but with my new command you can get what ever you want pretty much as long as it isnt offensive. The navy has one of the most open policies, The Marines and Airmen i served in iraq with were in awe i was able to get a half sleeve, but just be cautious on what you get and ask your superiors.

It is a disqualification. You can talk to a recruiter about it since there are waivers for SOME tattoos but yours is in a VERY obvious spot so I am not sure he or she would even allow it.
