I believe it would be very wise to send an apology letter, provided you are expecting nothing in return. It's usually not wise to burn bridges and it takes a big person to apologize when their wrong. It says alot about your character and integrity.
Go for it.

You might not want to hear this...
Maybe that was an excuse because they didn't like you and they were looking for a reason to fire you?
Family run businesses are not that much different than other businesses. I'm assuming in this case it was not your family's business. I bet their family drama would have been okay.
Seriously, don't send the letter if you think they could have been looking for a reason to get rid of you. If you feel that they love you and you were super close to them then by all means send it. I just think they would have found a way to keep you if they thought that much of you. Sorry.
A letter can come back to haunt you!!!
It's all completely up to you because only you know the full story. Good luck!

You DID steal company data. You STOLE the names of THEIR clients. Those clients would find out you don't work their anymore on their own in time. Instead you took those names WITH YOU and called those clients. They would have found a different groomer and may have ended up back where you were. You THINK they wouldn't want to go back to that place if you weren't there, but you don't know. She didn't care where you work, she was informing your current bosses of your actions. Had you not called HER clients she likely wouldn't have found you and told the bosses.

No, it wouldn't be weird at all. You sound like its been on your mind for awhile so it would make you feel better if you did send the letter. At the same time, I'm sure that your former boss would be pleasantly surprised to see that there are some conscientious people out there who are trying to do the right thing. Its never to late to admit your mistakes and try to rectify them. I say go for it and I commend you on trying to "right a wrong".

I think it would be better to personally apologize instead of writing a letter. It seems more sincere. And...you may get your job back. It happened to me.

If it's on your mind, it's always good to get closure. But don't make it a selfish act and say you want to apologize.
Tell them you enjoyed working with them and wished them well or felt they were a good comapny and felt you never got to express that.

No, I don't think it is wierd, just probably unnecessary. Especially since it seems like you would never see this person again AND they have probably forgotten about the situation long ago.

You can write the apology but I wouldn't send it. Time to move on.

I think it would be very mature to do so and just don't expect anything in return.
