Let's see - Slavery and a semi-full belly with a life of abuse and drudgery OR freedom and having to rough it a while until you make it to the promised land. I'd choose the latter.

Egypt was the most advanced place on the planet, why would anyone want to leave that paradise and go into the wilderness to live like animals? I suppose jealousy could be one reason.

Stay behind. I can't think of any reason to follow Moses. Then again, I'm not looking at it from the viewpoint of a hypothetical Israelite slave.

I would have wanted to leave. The promise was a better life and I believe they were being persecuted where they were so anything would have seemed better than that.
