That's rather trippy.

Older churches seem to have copied the construction of the Mishkan in the desert. (Tent of meeting)

The door was on the west side. The ark was on the east side. So this is a tradition that dates back a long time.

A practical reason is so people don't interrupt the service when they come in late. We don't want them messing up the fancy carpet up front either. ;).

Usually, form follows function. It just works better to have a door in the back, and it looks better to have the doors in the front outside so it's nearer to the road.

Because if you faced the back door during the church service you'd get a huge crook in the neck by the time the preacher was finished with the sermon!

you would also be able to keep track of how long the preacher was preaching since you'd be facing the clock as well...

Front door from the outside. When inside the altar is always considered "up front."

It's an architectural thing rather than a religious thing. Theatres and cinemas are designed the same way. It's the most practical way to design any building where large numbers of people are addressed.

Wow....that's deep. I never looked at it that way! Usually because I'm looking to sneak out the back door during the service.

I would say to not be distracted, cause the altar is supposed to be the main focal point.
