Suppose people in your field make from 70-200k. You're new to the industry and fresh out of college. Do you ask for 100k or 50k?

Blessed's about right. If the average range is 70-200k, you might try very politely suggesting 80k. A lot of employers will try to haggle you down, no matter where you start. So I'd suggest asking for just a little over what you want/are willing to work for, but make it clear you're flexible.

Good luck! :)
