Better than KIllington is some aspects. Attitude of the tourists and the locals is the big difference. Terrain isn't as tough as Jay (or Killington in some places) but it has some great runs at all levels...as does Jay and Killington. It's also harder to get lost at Stowe.

Try some Shed Mountain Ale brewed in Stowe or hit the Alchemist Brew Pub in Waterbury...only 15-20 minutes away. Also you can stop in Ben & Jerry's Factory in Waterbury as well.

It has been a while since I went to Stowe but I remember it being a nice moutnain. Lots of Apres skiing. The mountain itself has the front four which are infamous for there level of difficulty. There is some tree skiing although nothing like Jay Peak. My personal favorite is jay Peak for a lot of reason, more snow, more trees less crowds less expenive. However it is further. Seems more like a western ski area than anything else in the east.

Better than Killington...almost as good as Jay.

If you haven't been, then go!

Superb mountain/ terrain. Great village. One of my all time favorite places. Can be windy though.

Definitely try it.
