My cat did this too..
Talked to the vet, and they told me that often if a cat is able to see their own reflection in their water bowl, they will not drink from it.. they'll paw it, as you stated, or drop something in and suck the liquid out of it. For some reason if the water is still and they can see reflections, some cats wont drink from the bowl.
We bought Tigger a cat-it water fountain, and that eliminated the pawing thing.. he drinks from it normally... I must add though, that we also recently got a large fishtank.. and he drinks from that all the time too... So who knows.. the vet theory could be completely wrong, and the cats know it confuses us, and are just messing with us ;)

Jumping up onto the counter could have gotten an excessive amount of for her historic bones. Move the water dish cut back, and placed out a couple of extra of them. At 15 she's formally viewed aged, and generally she will likely be too worn out and achy to stroll all of the manner around the condominium for a drink. It's additionally a well concept to have a vet run blood paintings. Increased water intake is a signal of health problem. Again, her age enables illness to creap up swiftly. Other matters to do for aged pets: Get heated beds. Ask a vet if there is a higher meals for her. As pets (and humans) age, digestion can emerge as complicated. Ask the vet approximately a every day soreness killer. Chances are, arthritis has set in, painkillers could make lifestyles extra secure. Good success.

Some cats don't mind getting their paws wet if it means getting something else they want. Some wild cats will use their paws to fish. My cat also sometimes dips her paw in the water, and I think it could have to do with the water level being too low for her to stick her face in there. She likes to drink from glasses and cups.

My cat also does the paw thing...I have had other cats in the past that did the same thing...so I think that is probably pretty normal in the cat world...not sure why she is dropping her toys in the water bowl tho!

My cats sometimes drink like that. I think it is kinda a game. Now the toy thing. My cats also do something similar. He would take his favorite toy and leave a pile of them near his food bowl. My mom said it was like a hoarding behavior. they are leaving their prized posessions together.

My cat stands with her front legs in the water dish and drinks from it. She also bring her toy balls that rattle into the dish too. She loves watching the water move around and she LOVES to play in it. Its just the personality of your cat and what makes her, her! :)

i once had a cat that ate his food with his paws, it was so cute...
i suppose your cat does what she does because she is a cat and it is a cat's place to be weird and bizarre and to keep us guessing as to the why of their behavior....
