Starting a photography business and need a new professional camera. I want it versatile enough to capture clear and detailed macro and night shots, not just portrait and others without requiring TOO many attachments/lenses. I'd rather it not be TOO expensive, but if you feel the best one for me is expensive please go ahead and recommend it!

>What camera do you recommend regardless of brand? >Which camera is the most popular for what I want?
>Which is the most versatile for a professional photographer?
> Does it require alot of lenses and attachments?

Thank you!

A digital SLR camera. A Canon XTi is a great entry level SLR. Has Many features that would allow to you take the images you mentioned. Also an endless supply of options (lenses, flash, filters and so on).

Camera body and a couple of decent lenses and kit would be about $1300 to $1500.

Good luck with your business.

IMO you should take a few classes in photography and learn about light and composition and ISO and f-stops and shutter speeds and using all manual settings before jumping into a DSLR. Work as an assistant to a professional photographer for a year or so while taking classes.

For true macro photography you'll need a macro lens and a ring light.

For night photography without flash you'll need a tripod and a camera that allows full manual control and a cable release. The camera has to have a "B" or "T" on the shutter speed setting and accept a cable release for long exposures. Owning the FotoSharp (fotosharp.com) "Day & Night Exposure Guide" will be very helpful. Here is one example, Scene # 14, 'City skyline in distance':

ISO 100

f2.8 @ 4 seconds
f4 @ 8 seconds
f5.6 @ 15 seconds
f8 @ 30 seconds
f11 @ 60 seconds
f16 @ 120 seconds

ISO 200

f2.8 @ 2 seconds
f4 @ 4 seconds
f5.6 @ 8 seconds
f8 @ 15 seconds
f11 @ 30 seconds
f16 @ 60 seconds

Good luck!

Hi, I bought a Samsung S600 two years ago and it is a fantastic camera 6Mpixel and I use a 2Gb SD memory card so I can take hundreds of photos. It does use the batteries pretty fast so I always keep 6 rechargeable with me. I am that impressed with it that last week I bought the Samsung A503 an now obsolete camera. It is 5Mpixel but does not have the lens that pops out at the front. As a result it is very good on batteries, although I always carry a spare set just in case. My advice which ever camera you chose get one that will accept an SD memory card, they are now fairly cheap and readily available and also runs on AA size batteries. The AA rechargeable are cheap, as are the chargers, you are not tied to a PC to recharge, unlike the Lion batteries and if the battery goes while you are out you can just pop in a new set. Some cameras have batteries you cannot change and when you can they cost an arm and a leg to buy. Skip

I'm not familiar with the market for night and macro shots.

Who will be buying them and what will they be doing with them?
