Like many of the other posters, I too have noticed that it's usually Christians, not atheists or other non-Christians, who bring up the topic of religion in the first place.
Christianity is the only religion that I've had people knock on my door or shove pamphlets into my doorframe or under my windshield wipers. It's the only religion where I've seen tracts every-frickin'-where, including public restrooms. It's the only religion I've seen that has its own shows on TV. (I'll give bookstores some credit - you do see books about non-Christian religions in bookstores.)
In politics, Christians seem to think it's perfectly acceptable to go on and on about "Christian" values in a country that is not (at least on paper) officially Christian. You never see Buddhists spouting off about how they'd like to see Buddhist values in government, or Wiccans equating "Wiccan values" with "family values."
To sum up, the only "pushing" I ever see is the pushing done by Christians. If Christians feel "pushed" by atheists, maybe the atheists are just pushing back!

Any atheist who feels the need to 'pronounce their non-faith' is just as annoying as any religious nut who does the opposite. Both the atheist and the religious fanatic are obsessed with one another apparently. What I don't understand is that if you don't think god exists, how can you dwell on this thought continually? Its almost like many people 'believe' in atheism as opposed to reaching the conclusion on their own and being done with it.

Between atheists and believers, one group has:
1) passed a law altering the Pledge of Allegiance to include their religious beliefs
2) passed a law changing the US motto to match their religious belief
3) passed a law putting said motto on all the money
4) an ex-president has said members of the opposing group should not be president
5) A sitting president has said to be president you should believe as he does
6) A major presidential candidate has said you need to be a member of his group to be president
7) Organizations of one group get special treatment in tax law, making it easier to be tax exempt.
8) A president has enacted a set of initiatives to help one group get tax money.
Guess which group and you will see which group has pushed their view far more than the other could ever hope to. The smaller group is simply trying to limit the abuse.
On YA, people come to discuss their views on religion. If you come here, expect to read opposing views. If you don't want to read opposing views, go to a discussion board that's limited to your opinion only.

because your prophet jesus made a point of telling christians to go out and "witness" to other people. Atheists do not have that sort of agenda... I think they are tired of monotheists being aggressive and are "pushing back" in a manner of speaking.... maybe even giving you all a taste of your own medicine, perhaps?
They do not need to convince themselves that god does not exist, they are already there. Christians just need to learn to respect that p.o.v. and stop being aggressive and hostile to people who disagree with them and maybe the favor will be returned!

We just want people to know that there is perfectly valid and legitimate reason for why they should be careful of what they say, and should be more considerate of other beliefs. Not everyone needs to be told that, but when you have people shouting about God hating gays, about abortion being inherently evil, and about everyone going to Hell for not believing in your God, you can understand why we would get a little upset. Likewise, I can understand why someone would get upset if they felt their beliefs were under attack...though I assume it has far less impact when a majority of other people share the same belief...
We just want people to stop being so overconfident about their own worldview, and to maybe quiet down a bit...

Well generally, what happens is that someone who DOES belong to some religion will go to an atheist and start berating them with "the world of god" and "you will burn in hell" etc.. so the atheist must defend themselves.
Also, I think that many Christians tend to be more tenacious and "in your face" about their beliefs than people who are atheists or who belong to other faiths. So they tend to be attacked to most for being pushy.
Generally an atheist won't be the one to start an argument and even if one is started their beief does not require that they used fear based threats to "convert." I've never had someone who does not believe in god try to convert me to anything. But I HAVE had many people who do try to do so. It's quite annoying.

Are Atheists actually coming to your home and telling you your religion (or lack of) is wrong? Funny, I 've never heard of that. When a religious question is asked and someone says they don't believe in god, or they're Hindu or Wiccan or Heathen or whatever, they are expressing their beliefs, not trying to tell you to change yours.
It really sounds to me like you have your own doubts, and are blaming these people for putting them in your head.

When it comes to us as Gods creation Satan wants to deceive even the very elect. But God won't have that because we are His children. The main reason for the athiest point of view is they are lost no way around it but they need our prayers & sympothy & maybe when we talk to them the same way Jesus did before He was put to death it would be worth seeing just 1 person in Heaven because we tried to get the gospel out to a lost & dying world. You also have to remember that even those people in His time hated Him & that's why they hate us. But sometimes I wonder if we should run from or refrain from being on here to answer any 1's ??? but we are to be a shining light to those in this dark & dying world, right?

"are they trying to convince themselves that God does not Exist?"
I don't need to convince myself that Invisible Sky Critters (ISCs) don't exist.
Anyone can see just by the lack of verifiable evidence there is no god.
A universe WITH a god would be completely different to one without.
AND
You funghi never let a chance go by to lecture us on the fact we’re all hell-bound.
The ONLY thing that keeps you people in line is your FEAR of going to hell if you don’t suck up to your specific breed of ISC.
Life must suck.
