NO.. Not LEGALLY..Federal law allows you to buy a rifle or a shotgun at 18 years old, but you must be 21 to buy a handgun (45) Federal laws apply in Florida as they do in other states....

First, attend a firearms course, then get a shotgun at 18 and get the handgun when you're 21. You can't purchase from a fed licensed dealer until you're 21 (that's any gun store, pawn shop, or any place that sells guns). Technically, per FL law (like many states), it's not illegal for you to possess a handgun bewteen 18 and 20 (say your dad tranfers ownership of a handgun to you), but then you can't buy the ammo for it, because you have to be 21. The law clearly allows you to own, operate, and purchase ammo for a shotgun (or rifle), so get a shotgun (after you have taken a firearms course or someone has properly shown you how to operate and care for the shotgun).
BTW, I am not a legal expert (just a guy who enjoys shooting as a hobby and for potential self-defense) check with your local and state authorities for a more definitive answer. For FL, the Dept of Agriculture (they issue CCWs), the State Attorney's Office, and your local sheriff, are excellent resources.

With a kinfolk violence arrest, your dad's skill to purchase or very own any firearm is off the table. you're sixteen, and you may now no longer posses a protracted gun except you're 18, 21 for a handgun. What you're describing is named a 'straw guy' purchase, the area somebody buys a gun for a different. it is unlawful and is without doubt considered one of the flaws that they are tightening down on.

no a .45 handgun is 21, do not buy a .45 they are generally expensive if your getting a house, get a decent quality 9mm. But as you are not 21 get a Remington 870 Express 12 ga. shotgun, they will preform. Law enforcement uses them, if you see a cop with a shotgun, chances are thats what it is, plus you can swap out parts, and make it tactical, or tactical looking if you please. But, no one cares what your gun looks like if they have a belly full of lead.

Federal law: 18 for rifle and shotguns, and 21 for handguns. NO EXCEPTIONS. Local laws also have to be adhered to.
