I work in a book store and a customer got a paper cut and wanted a band aid. I didn't help her, someone else did. My fear is that if she had AIDS I could have somehow gotten it from her or my coworker who helped her. Am I just being crazy?

You're not crazy and you shouldn't be scared. It takes a way lot more than that to get HIV or AIDS. Give her a band aide next time.

I can understand your fear. I read that the first person (Known) to get Aids from taking care of a patient was a nurse. She had been pruning her roses, the day before and had scratches on her thumb. A patient came into the ER with blood coming from a deep cut, and she put gauze on the cut and applied pressure. The blood soaked the gauze, and she did not have gloves on her hands. She would later get Aids.
But you were not taking care of the customer, so you should be ok.

You could have only gotten AIDS from this customer if quite a bit of her blood got into a cut that you have.

Colin,

Don't worry about it at all.. AIDS can be contracted only through direct contact of body fluids from one person to another. This direct contact can be through intercourse, needle sharing, transfusions, etc. I can't happen through touching an AIDS patient's blood unless the blood comes in direct contact with another person's open wound, and even that will not necessarily result in contracting AIDS.

It's a little silly, yes. Look at the odds. :)

1) You don't even know if she had them.
2) Even if she did, you DIDN'T even help her.
3) I doubt you will get them from your co-worker, unless you hug/kiss/or do anything else intament.

Good luck, don't worry!
