I was just wondering if anybody knows the exact rifle used in the mall shooting. The news said it was an "assualt rifle", but I am just trying to find out if it really was an assualt rifle or something else.

It was an SKS. Not an AK-47 at all, those were two separate firearms altogether, both based off the same cartridge, though. Certainly not an M16 like the first witness accounts claimed. I don't know how he got it, since his parents had kicked him out months ago and he was living in class 8 housing with some lowlife friends of his. He shaved his head and wore camouflage all the time, so I can't imagine who sold someone this troubled a firearm, and why he wouldn't have been on the 'NO' list for the NICS background check.
Apparently, he did it because he wants to be famous, and so that he could get back at his parents. I think that nobody should have mentioned it, just to prevent things like this from happening in the future. He saw in the news all the attention that the other shooters were getting from their atrocities, and he wanted attention, too.

It was like an old Soviet rifle. "Mr. Hawkins fired about 30 shots from an AK-47-style semi-automatic weapon that the police said he stole from his stepfather. He had two magazines with 30 rounds each, the chief said, that “had the capacity to fire multiple rounds in a short period of time.”

Yeah i live about 15 minutes south of Omaha, thats the only thing thats going around school now. It was a SKS 7.62 Rifle. I have one. Its just a AK-47 with cheaper parts and sold by the chinese. It preforms as well as the AK-47 it is a very nice gun.

It was a full auto AK-47..... I read it on the internet.... they said the kid took it from his dads rifle collection..... better lock up your rifles if you have a wild kid I guess.....
