This is how I understand punishment: These verses speak to the servants who lose their salvation...I think the unbelievers (sinners) will be punished in the same manner.
There are degrees of punishment for sin. If one does not make it to the Kingdom …they will have their part in the Lake of fire. Stripes as used in the following verses are degrees of punishment…
Luke 1245But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
46The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. (here he will be placed with the unbeliever)
47And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
48But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
The Lake of Fire will burn hotter and be more painful for some. It doesn’t make sense Hitler and and a 30 year old man who's a thief would get the same punishment.

Envy is the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.
Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.
Lust is an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
Anger is manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.
Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.

The bible does not teach that all sins are the same. Indeed, some sins are called abominable, while others are not. I Corinthians 3:12 tells us that the works of man can be gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or stubble. Sin is a work, and it is more likely than not that it is a work of wood, hay or stubble, as opposed to gold, silver or precious stones. That chapter tells us further that if any man's work is burned he shall suffer loss, but he himself shall be saved. The bible enumerates the sins. If it does not state it is a sin, it isn't a sin. Nowhere in the bible does it say that arguing sends you to hell. Murder, will, however. Man names many things as sins, that God does not mention in the bible. Likewise, man names many things as acceptable (i.e. homosexuality), that God clearly says is sin. So, it is clear from the bible that all works shall be weighed for the Christian. Other religions shall be judged by their books. That is why the bible says to study to show thyself approved, man will tell you anything.

Wow, since when did they put smoking on the sin list??? I missed the memo! I'd better run straight to confession!
Seriously tho, sins are relative to the culture you commit them in. So who really knows what sins (other than the ones that go against the 10 commandments) count? Who decides what a bad word is? Who goes to hell for a state sponsored execution? The judge, the jury, or the doctor who gave the shot? Back in the day of the firing squad, did they think their God didn't know whose gun the fatal bullet came from?
I really like the Wiccan stand on this..."And it harm none, do what ye will."

Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4). But all sin is not equal in consequence. Consider the words of Jesus:
John 19:10-11 10 "Do you refuse to speak to me?" Pilate said. "Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?" 11 Jesus answered, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin."
Matthew 11:20-24
Notice Jesus speaks of one sin being greater than another and judgment being more bearable for some than others, because God takes into account the circumstance of their sin. Some were first hand witnesses of Jesus miracles while others knew Him only through prophecy. Those who would see Him from a distance were judged less harshly for their sin. In Pilate's case, those more actively desiring His crucifixion than Pilate was were guilty of "greater sin" than Pilate who partly wished he could free Christ but did not. So obviously murder would be 'counted' different than smoking. But this is not to say a little sin is OK ... They all lead to separation from God and need to be dealt with.
Where Christians get the idea of all sin being equal is that even the least sin can condemn a person to Hell while no sin is too great for Christ's blood to cover and erase it. In that sense sins are equal in that all people / sinners are condemned and yet none are so bad God cannot forgive and save them.

Well they are all the same in that they separate us from God. Think of an omelet made with five eggs. It doesn't matter if one of the eggs is rotten or all of them are, I don't want to eat it. Same is true of sin. A life lived with only one sin or a million is all the same rotten. That is the point of grace. Accepting the free gift of Jesus because I can't pay what I owe. Whether I owe five dollars or fifty if I am broke I can't pay.

Take a look at this:
Revelation 21:8 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society
8But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."
All sns ARE the same!
Lying is just as bad asmurder, which is just as bad as sexual imorality, ect.

Where did you get the idea that all sins count the same? Jesus taught that there were greater and lesser sins. For example he said, "the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin." and "Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!" and "That servant who knows his master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be beaten with many blows. But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows."

In fairness, cursing and smoking are not sins. Working on the sabbath and eating shellfish are, however.
The point is that God is a massive micro-managing bully who will pick out any reason he can to toss you into Hell for eternity, but also has a split personality, one of which decided to go to Earth and get killed so that we can bathe in his blood and give God a massive "Screw you! I found a loophole!" when we get to the Pearly Gates. And then God will be like "Curse you, JESUS! You've foiled my plans once again".
Actually, maybe that was just an episode of Scooby Doo...I don't know...sinning makes your memory all fuzzy...

All sins are not counted the same. Mortal sins separate us totally from God. Venial sins offend God but do not totally separate us from God. Murder completely separates us from God. Stealling someone's dollar bill, does not. We can always go to confession and ask for forgiveness.
