I'm joining the local rod and gun club.I plan on starting with decent .22,and a mossberg if I need it.I plan on buying a surplus Lee Enfield for the bigger game.

I don't think my parents will like the concept of me hanging out with a bunch of gun-toting older guys.

Small game is usually cheaper and easier. Kinda tough getting started without help as hunting laws tend to be very confusing. You also need to know how to clean and cook what you are hunting before you kill it. I would start buying state or region specific hunting magazines. Also look around for a hunting safety class. You also may be able to do a search for hunting clubs in your area. You need to figure out what type of hunting and where you'll be doing it before buying firearms. So you get one suitable.

I'd start with squirrel or rabbit, or something like that. It is cheaper and easier to start with that sort of thing before sinking a lot of money into deer hunting. If you plan on joining the gun club, you can ask people there about good public places to hunt and etc. They are locals, so they will know the local laws, etc.

You are not crazy and hunting is probably the most fun thing you have ever done. I, myself would recommend you get a .410 or 20 ga. shotgun for squirrels. The reason I say this is what goes up comes down. If you shoot at a squirrel in a tree and miss or it-------- Where did the bullet go ?

Mossberg and your Lee Enfield are good choices.* Look into getting a Mossberg shotgun also for target & small or big game, because you can also shoot rifled slugs from your shotgun.* Try rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, grouse, doves, woodcock, groundhogs, Whitetail Deer, quail.* There is a lot of choices as far as harvesting game for you to choose from.

Harry, I'd start with squirrel or rabbit. Large game is not something you go out and just do yourself one day. Practice on the small critters and work your way up. And make some friends at the club that will take you out and show you the ropes.
