It seems to be the antithesis of "saving for a rainy day" doesn't it. Perhaps it refers to the term (so politically incorrect) Indian Giver.
Twain looks at the world in such a way that it opens our minds to new ideas.

Mark Twain always has the best quotes. He is my husband's favorite author, so we have lots of his books.

I have this on my e-mails, by Twain: Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.
