The civil rights movement was a historical movement to get independent freedoms for minorities. Some were being treated inhumanely and badly wherever they went.
Extortion has to do with money or property. Since slaves were considered property, they were bought and sold, and sometimes treated inhumanely.

An example of extortion is when the KKK stole my great uncle's land and killed him so that his family could live.
The civil rights movement is when my grandfather and grandmother decided that my great uncle was worth fighting for.
