I am a former chef and the brand is not the issues, I would look more at the size, 3, 5 or 7 quart size, the features and electronic timers or settings.
One with three settings like High, Low and Warm, there are some with probes and I saw one with 3 inter-changable bowls for small to large items. I have one with just 2 settings, but it all depends on the use and size of your family.

Nesco are good brands and they seem to last a long time. I have had one for over10 yrs now. I know they make all kinds I'm not sure how they all work some may have higher temps while cooking.

Rival. They're great. And they last forever until you drop the lid or insert and they break, or putting cold inserts with leftovers in and have the drastic change in temp. But Rivals are awesome. Only human error can screw them up.
