.....I spent three years in apartment ministry, ten years teaching Bible at a homeless shelter, 3 years in prison ministry, and 1 year as a mentor to inmates in prison. In all these activities I met and made friends with men and women that I would have never met or had as friends until I went into those places as a minister.
.....I did it because I have this in ate desire to teach the Bible to all who desire to know the truth. I think it worked out very well. I remember one night telling them that I come there as a minister prepared to pour into them the knowledge that God had poured into me; but the more I poured into them, the more God poured into me.
.....Knock on wood, I have done nothing to make the world a better place that did not improve the lives of the people I touched.
.....I think the worst thing I ever did was doing nothing before I started to share the Bible with others.
Keep the faith.

"...worst thing you have done to make the world a worse place for all mankind..."
Well I doubt I've ever done anything THAT bad. Perhaps my having ran out to the store a little bit ago to get some juice and meds because I'm somewhat sick. Because I'd asked my mother if she'd go for me (so I'm not out driving those possibly icy roads with a cloudy head and going out there in that cold air) but she conveniently forgot. So now it's possible I might pass on the cold to a few others.
Better place...have a project still in the works, can't currently give details on that.

I am a father of 4, 3 boys and a girl, and have 3 Grandchildren. I consider my most important achievement, in harmony with their mother, is having raised and educated those children to be good, stable and productive adult citizens. They all are happy and succesful in terms of what society calls success. They are not church going citizens but were raised as Christians.
Why did I do it? Because I loved them and like you had lost much of my faith in humankind and didn't want to abandon them to the whims of a society gone mad. (The 20th century was a century of wars). I feel good about doing this because i think I know what is right and what is wrong and what a person has to have and do in order to be truly happy. Their and others i have witnessed taking their places in society as moral, law-abiding, productive citizens has rekindled my faith in the goodness of the human family.
The worst thing I have felt I have done was to believe in the necessity of war as a rational solution to mankinds problems of international relations, as taught to me by the war time American society I was raised in in the 1940's and 1950's. This belief led me into a military career which I now consider a complete waste of my life during that career.
I now consider honestly that no one has ever really won a war or ever will. The psychological damage done to human society by wars just accumulates and steadily becomes magnified by the remembered wounds of war and the misbegotten need for revenge. I feel that the Christian principles of forgiveness and Love would solve all that if seriously attempted.
I also feel that the Churches have let too much theological garbage/baggage take over their mission to let such an attempt be succesful.
Good luck in your research, good luck in rekindling your faith, good mental health, peace and Love!

You asked, so I'll tell you about myself. The best thing I ever did for humankind was to acknowledge that I have bipolar disorder and get professional treatment -- therapy and the right meds. I lived much of my adult life doing really wacky and irresponsible things that were very painful to others as well as myself. Getting a handle on the problem and taking responsibility for managing myself have made me a much better person. Thanks for asking!

Working in the ministry. Sharing with others I find the words Jesus spoke at Matthew 6 verses 9,10.
(Matthew 6:9-10) ““YOU must pray, then, this way: “‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. 10Â Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth.”
The benefits his Fathers Kingdom will bring to mankind.
(Revelation 21:3-4) “With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4Â And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.””
I do this for my love for Jehovah God and His Son Jesus Christ and my love for my neighbors.
My dedication for the same

I am not here to make life better or worse for mankind.
I am here to make my own life better (or worse), depending on my choices.
