How do suppliers get fresh unfrozen fish from the North Atlantic and Alaska to markets in Florida-is fish marketed as fresh and unfrozen really just defrosted ?

Some distributors don't kill the fish until it's reached it's destination.
Some ship overnight or 2 day in refrigerated transporters.

I have no idea unless it is just very cold. If I lived some distance from the "catch" area I would not buy seafood touted as being fresh. Seafood and fish can start to deteriorate as soon as it is caught, causing it to feel slimy and have a strong fishy odor, and if it is just "on ice" for shipping bacteria could also grow on the fish. Frequently the quality of frozen seafood is superior to that of fresh items that are shipped long distances. I think it is just "snob appeal" that causes the preference for fresh.

They pack it in ice and put it on an airplane. There is a big market for fresh seafood all over the country and it's flown in daily.
