You should lock the room. If you think it is your roommate, get an invisible pen and mark your valuables. Also alert an authority in the dorm about your suspicion and that you are marking your belongings should the problem arise again.

Next time your money goes missing let the dorm authority know and have them come in and check the other person's belongings for the markings you placed on them with an invisible pen.

A video camera is the surest, just make sure it's set to get the whole room. Or, you can use some old tricks.

Like, sprinkle everything in your room with something that stains or smells. Problem is, you'll have to clean up the mess. Find a cologne you like then when soemthing goes missing, smell everyone. Or, use some copier toner or baby powderand then check people's hands.

Or, and oldie but a good, wait til something goes missing and just tell people you sprinkled something on the goods that appears under black light and ask people to hold their hands up to your black light bulb. The guilty guy won't want to.

Why are you handling this? Report it to the campus police. Don't turn into super sleuth because if he's rotten enough to steal your TV he may also have some really rotten friends who will get together and beat the crap out of you if you turn into a private detective. When you report it to the police tell them who you think took it and why.

Instead of spending your energy trying to catch someone, just make sure that your valuables are secure. That's better than getting stuff stolen anyway. Report any previous thefts to the campus police and let them take care of it.

My campus has the option of having certain valuables engraved (by campus security), with a number, then registered, you should asked around.
