I had a total knee reconstruction on my knee last monday, and was wondering if anyone else had ever had this done? If so how did it affect your career and how long did it take to get back to full duty status? if anyone could help me out Id appreciate it.

My husband just got done with knee surgery (Army)....had a completely torn ACL and damage cartilage etc. Not total knee but anyhow the doctors told him from this he will probably not be fully recovered to a year. Might be able to start jogging at a minimum of 3 months to taking up to 6 months. By a year he might be able to start running. He will have at least a year of physical therapy.
6 weeks on crutches, no weight bearing.
My husband is pissed because he is on a dead mans profile. He can start going to the gym but really can't do anything until he sees physical therapy and they will determine what he can do.
Good luck to you.

Just follow your doctor's orders and don't over do it. Don't worry about full duty status until he or she returns you to full duty. Keep in mind your Doctor might just be a Swabbie but he or she is still your doctor.

Your given a certain about of time to rehabilite your knee.

Then you must pass your PT test to remain in the service.

If rehabilitation fails or you fail your PT test after the rehabilitation period.

Then you are medically discharged.

Ultimately, a doctor will have to make that decision. Take it easy and don't overdo it.
