It does have a little bit of relevance, just not enough. The part where Jesus says "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone" is pretty good, along with "Judge not lest ye also be judged" and "Though I have faith to move mountains, if I have not charity..." . Well, I can't quote this stuff like a good preacher should, but there's some really nice stuff in there.
Just not quite enough for modern people. The Bible CAN be a good historical resource, but it is not THE historical resource. It isn't a very good science text at all. You can't learn Math by looking at the numbers in the Bible that don't add up properly, nor can you determine the ultimate fate of our world by looking at biblical prophesies. That's up to US.
But Jesus said some good things about how important it is to respect others--even (or ESPECIALLY) our "enemies"--the people we have the hardest time respecting.
That Jesus was a great guy!
But for a complete education, other books (and other experiences) are needed.

Yes it hold relevance to our lives today. 1 Timothy 3:16. It is very benecial to our well being. It tells us how to be happy, healthy, and gives us hope. The Bible tells us about the Kingdom of God and how his kingdom (government) will put an end to all of the governments of the world today. Daniel 2:44. It provides us with hope in that we know that the earth will be restored to a beautiful paradise (1 Peter 3:13, Micah 4:4, Isaiah 25:8).

I think the bible holds tremendous relevance today, and trying to do what it says certainly makes us better people I am talking here about the New Testament - I do think the Old Testament would be impossible to live up to with it's hundreds of laws to follow. Jesus basically left us with only 2 commandments - love God with all your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbor as yourself. If you really love people, you will not kill, steal, lie, covet , commit adultery, etc., so loving each other and treating people the way you'd want to be treated covers it all. Also he taught about mercy and forgiveness, not judging and helping those in need. How can any of this not make a better person out of all of us? One of the greatest lessons he taught is about how you reap what you sow. In other words, what you give out you get back, what goes around comes around. God is good!!!!

Correct! You can't live up to those ideals. That is the reason why Jesus' teaching is so important, basically the Law in the Old Testament was to show you how difficult it was to live up to God's standards. The only way a person can attain those standards is to follow the teachings of Jesus and the New Testament writers.
Listen to the Christmas Carol "Hark the herald Angel sing" ... "God and sinner reconciled".

Yes. The bible is a relevant document in the sense that it governs a lot of decision making today – albeit in very obtuse ways. Even my Wiccan parents encouraged me to read it – and I did – so that I would better grasp its magnitude and influence.

If you need to ask this question, then you truly do not understand what is written in the Bible. There are numerous teachings in the Bible that hold true today. Here is a simple one. Do unto others as you want done unto you. Simple and relevant.

Knowledge is in the form of thoughts, it is expressed in words translated in languages. Preserved in some media may books or in computer. In ancient time paper and ink was not there yet it is preserved. Books are our real friends. Except Truth, every thing in this world is illusions. All ancient holy books were not available yet people aware of the knowledge. Books are like body and knowledge in between the lines is soul.

It is still the most widely selling book in print, by a long shot. So there must be some people out there who find relevance in it.

It holds no relevance only to those that do not honor or worship God. Where do you fit in with this? Christ fully expects us to follow His word. Few will, however, hence His statement of truth : "Strait is the gate, and narrow the path that leads unto life, and few there be that find it." (Matt. 7:14)

It has a lot of relevance to my life and to the society I live in.
You're right that no one can be expected to live up to those ideals. And we are not expected to be perfect, just to do what God says is right and just. We do the best we can. God forgives us when we fall short.
