In addition to a blade at the bottom, the food processor has a disc at the top with different openings to chop or shred as you feed in the food. In general, a food processor is a little sturdier and does a little more. Both are a pain to clean.

WELL......
A Blender is an appliance used to make a smoothie, shake or something along that line (this can also be used as a liquifier) the applice is not really good for chopping, unless you want a heap of mush!!!

While a food processor on the other hand is used to chop, shred (grate) and make doughs. I recieved a Cuisinart food processor for X-mas last year, and I really enjoy it.

Think beverages with blenders: slushes, shakes, smoothies, frozen drinks, ice

Think solids w/ FP's: chopping veggies, nuts, mixing sauces or dips, pestos, etc.

Some sauces can be made in the blender. But it's hard to make beverages in a FP b/c of the hole in the bottom of the bowl. FP will not do ice. But a blender cannot slice, shred, or julienne, either.
