Highly trained people -- not just people with a good heart -- are needed to meet the challenges of the very important job of being a social worker specializing in services for children. Hence why a university degree is essential. An undergraduate degree in social science, human services or psychology is an excellent foundation for such a career. You can also start volunteering right now, with organizations like the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association (www.casanet.org), homeless organizations or children's advocacy organizations, to gain insight into the challenges you would face as a social worker, and experience to help you address those challenges.

In NY, you need a 4 year college degree, and a masters (total 6 years of college). I think that's rediculous cause if you're raising a family on a social worker budget, your family would be on food stamps! But another option is to persue becoming a social worker/counciler in a school setting (again, 6 years of college).
Volunteering is always rewarding, too. I'd like to volunteer at a Children's Hospital when my kids are older.

right here we circulate back, ok: MSW (Masters in Social artwork) 60 credit, 2 years finished-time, or 4 years section time. you would be a qualified therapist with this degree. PsyD. or Phd. - Doctoral levels. which comprise the doctoral dissertation, those take 4-6 years after your bachelors degree (you do no longer choose the masters first, you are able to circulate rapidly to Phd. from BA or BS.) you are able to replace right into a psychologist with those levels. maximum psychologists these days are in learn or they do attempting out with sufferers/consumers, no longer counseling. The MSWs are those doing most of the counseling. sarcastically, you are able to no longer replace right into a qualified therapist with a masters in Psychology, circulate determine. in case you relatively desire to try this the quickest way achieveable, decide for a BSW (Bachelors in Social artwork) in college. (observe, this is no longer a Sociology degree, some people confuse that - that's a Bachelors degree in Social artwork.) in case you have a BSW, you are able to prepare for "better status" in the graduate software, and earn your MSW in one twelve months as a replace of two. good success!
