Klonopin works the best for me in a long term way. It's made to work for 9 hours at a time. However, you don't feel as heavily medicated as with xanax. Xanax is fast acting and feels more ....hm....drunk like but it only peaks at about 2 hours and then starts to decline requiring more frequency of taking another pill. Ativan, for me, makes me sleepy.
All three are really excellent for anxiety. I guess I would recommend a strong dose of Klonopin considering the severity of your anxiety because you will feel less anxious but will not be sleepy or unable to function like with xanax.
These are my opinions from past experiences. I am currently on Klonopin and it seems to be working ...ok. But I think I need to add an actual antidepressant that also treats anxiety like Abilify or Lithium. I actually have an appointment on Monday to address my medication issues. I take Klonopin, Nureontin and Zoloft but I'm still experiencing extreme anxiety and Bipolar symptoms. It's such a never ending battle and I feel for you so much.
Please let me know what works out for you and Best Wishes.

I also suffer from Anxiety and take xanax .05 and Klonopin in .05 and also 1.0 - they all make me slightly sleepy but the benefits are better than the panic or anxiety I have experienced. One thing you might consider is Biofeedback. I did this through my Mental Health Professional and all you do is learn to self-calm during an anxiety attack. They use these monitors they hook up to your forhead, shoulders, jaws, you know...normal tense areas and you learn relaxation techniches to release and let go during an attack and it has been especially helpful for me. Check it out with your Doctor. It just may be the ticket for you!! Goodluck and prayers to you! :)

kind of... I was on medication for awhile. It was for panic and depression. I was in my late teens early twenties at the time and had lost my insurance so the pills were costing me an arm and a leg that and they were not really helping all that much. I stopped taking the pills and it was really rough there for a couple months.. Finally I figured out happiness is just a mindset as is sadness. I now choose to be happy! when ever I feel like I am going to get depressed I laugh it off!! when ever I felt like a panic attack (which I don't get anymore!) I'd go for a walk! that said... that's what worked for me. some people have a chemical imbalance and for those people a-lot of times meds are needed... you really should talk to a psychiatrist (but make sure u find the right psych for u!)

i liek xanax to help me sleep. it can be used as an anti anxiety med so it helps you sleep and subsides thoughts a bit. keep in mind tho, i took it for years and even thought the pillsa re .5 i would tkae 5 or 6 to get an effect after a while. ativan is jsut liek xanax but i dont think it is as stong...same problem i took a lot more of thoes to get the same effects after a while

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway
