I used to be an atheist before but thankfully not now, 100 % believer now and the atheists here that have not converted yet are only here for one reason, to learn more about God because they are fence sitters still not sure if they want to jump in. REAL atheists like I used to be would never hang out in a place such as this that is full of religion. in their questions and answers they will deny it but that is only so their friends that see their questions an answers will not make fun of them. They will put up a very strong anti-God front but a front is all it really is.....100 % here are secretly fence sitters ..no true atheists here so keep preaching, they really do want to hear it.....and please post here often so we can get all the fence sitters SAVED

I'm out, gay and atheist, but all my friends are heathens so they don't care. Plus I live in NYC, people are generally accepting or are to busy to care. But some people don't have the situation I do, and just prefer to keep it secret cuz they don't want to lose friends or make things difficult. But a lot of atheists are out so to speak, but don't feel the need to shout it from the rooftops, they wont bring it up unless someone else asks.

It doesn't come up with most people, as discussing religion when I've got work to do is useless- this is what i do in my leisure time. However, all of my family and friends know my beliefs.
Guy above me- just because you choose to believe in fairy-tales because you fear death doesn't mean we're the same. See how it feels when people presume your reasons for doing something? By the same logic, I could say that the Christians hang out with all us atheists because they're unsure of their beliefs too.

i'm on the coast. There truly at the instant are not that a lot of human beings down on your Belt, and for reliable reason. I actually have a shirt that proclaims "ATHEIST... and pleased with it" so that's no secret of any style.

the answer is in your question. why would an atheist want to be vocal about his/her beliefs when the self-righteous bigots of the world consider it a "dirty little secret"?
Furthermore, being an atheist is about as "dirty" as being part of blood/cannibalism cult that praises the slaughter of the innocent for the benefit of sinners

Every time I tell someone I'm an atheist they end up acting strange. I get the feeling they double check their doors and windows at night after meeting me.

Funny, on a day to day basis, in all the hundreds of people I meet, I never once think to ask them if they are Christian, Jew, Booga Booga or Atheist. How exactly is one supposed to know? How would you know?

You're not likely meeting too many of them in your church and social circle, which it sounds like you rarely ever leave. Get out once in awhile, you'll meet atheists and even a few of us heathen pagans, too. Don't worry, we don't bite.

Everyone who knows me knows that I'm an atheist. If the subject comes up, I'll be honest about it. But I don't go around introducing myself by saying, "Hi, I'm Kathryn, an atheist," anymore than you introduce yourself as a christian.

Nothing as everyone who knows me well enough outside of the net knows I'm an atheist also.
