They can't jump or fly. They feed off blood. Using hair conditioner every night on hair and combing with a fine toothed comb will clear eggs and stop more hatching.

Head lice are very common and easily spread. They do live by drinking human blood and it is possible but rare that they can spread infection and make people feel ill as a result. Most people only have one symptom and that is scratching.
Head lice lay eggs and breed quite quickly. The eggs are glued to a strand of hair and the egg is called a nit. Normally it's the nit that is most easily seen as they are normally white. Lice can be any colour. The best place to look is in the area behind the ears.
Head lice are rapidly becoming resistant to many of the treatments that have been used - so it's best to ask your chemist what they currently recommend. Some people advocate using a nit comb and conditioner which is combed thoroughly through the hair. The nit comb is a very fine toothed comb that will pluck the nits from the hair and it is hoped that the lice will get stuck in the conditioner - so stopping their escape.
Lice do not burrow into the scalp.

They do feed on blood. Generally they don't make a person feel ill, but the person will have a very itchy scalp. There are over-the-counter remedies for head lice available at any drug store. Your friend should consult the pharmacist as to which brand works the best. It's also essential that the user follow the instructions to the letter in order for any of these effective rememdies to do any good.

Lice are like human version flees. If your friend has lice you probably do also. Who ever has them needs to treat there hair and there home. No you should not feel sick from lice unless you have them bad and for a long time. Your head will itch that's the usual way you find out if you have them. Its more common than you think, especially in schools. You have to pick out ALL the eggs or they will come back I think its like 1 egg hatches into 1,000 lice bugs. There are a million different ways to treat lice. Cat shampoo, RID, NIX, mayo, carosine, prescription medications, etc. If you don't treat your home, they will come back over and over again. Wash every thing in hot water. Stuffed animals in a plastic bag for 2 weeks. Pillows in the dryer, spray every thing in the house with lice bedding spray. I bleach the kitchen and bathroom. And don't forget THROW AWAY HAIR BRUSHES/COMBS/HAIR-TIES. Every one forgets to spray there car. Good Luck!!!

Lice was an epidemic in our local public schools. I fought them for years in my children's hair. The best advice I got was to use over the counter lice shampoo and be very careful to comb out all of the nits or eggs even if the shampoo says it kills eggs. Where a shower cap while you vaccume you home and change all the bedding. Spray lice killer on anything that won't fit in the washing machine. Then take a shower and change clothes. Then you must vaccume evey day for a week and change at leat your pillow cases if not your sheets. I tried to get rid of them off and on for years then found a site that gave this advice and was finally able to rid ourselves of them. Good Luck! they are horrible!!!!!

headlice live on the scalp they dont burrow under the skin, they feed off your blood and the only symptoms are an itchy scalp, they cant fly or jump and they lay eggs in your hair the lice look like little black insects (brown if you have lighter hair) and the eggs are like tiny black dots. you can buy headlice lotion in chemists, you put it in your hair, rub it in like shampoo leave it on for a while (it says how long in the instrutions) then wash it out and get rid of all the eggs by thoroughly with a headlice comb.
