The Catholic Church is not sponsored by Budweiser, or any other beer brewer for that matter, and the Catholic Church is still the largest Church in the world with more than one billion Catholics worldwide.
This suggests that NO, one does not need to be "half in the bag" in order to believe Catholic Dogma. This being the case, I have a hard time reconciling your idea that incorporating beer into the religion can only help. . . I suppose it all depends on what you mean when you say the word "help". Somehow, I get the feeling "help" means something different that what comes to mind when I think of the word "help".
I don't think you've thought things through very well.
