My teen daughter needs a car. My friend has a 2001 Crown Vic cop car he's willing to sell for $500. It has 200,000 miles on it and his wife has been driving it and says it runs fine. But I don't have $500 to just dump on a bad deal. I couldn't afford alot of work on it. Any advice? Would YOU buy it?

Does the car have maintenance records? Take it to a mechanic. IT may cost a couple hundred dollars but worth the money. At worst, you could sell it to a scrap yard for cash if it turns out to be a bad deal.

Nope. Don't go for it. I'm actually shocked that it still runs fine. Not because they're poorly made, because they were actually built to be abused more than normal . Coming from a family with police, and friends who are cops, I know what they do to those things. They beat the crap out of them. There are holes everywhere from all the equipment being held in place. I'm not sure what other cities policies are, but my town I know gets a new squad car when it reaches about 100,000 miles, give or take 10,000 because they become to costly to fix. There's nothing wrong with buying an old used car, but just hunt around a little. If you want a Ford, you could probably pick up an older Taurus for about the same price and those are fairly reliable (I've had 2 myself).

I would recommend NOT buy it. Usually after a cop car serves its days, it ends up in a dump. Police are put in situations where they have to force their cars to the limit to pull somebody over or something. Also, though it seems as if this car is precisely for transportation, your daughter is probably going to have a tough time driving this car even with any experience she has. A big block American lead sled that is just as big a yacht. Though $500 seems like little for a car, I would recommend forgetting about it and finding like a Cavalier or something...

not only does it have 200.00 miles but it was a cop car. much like a rental car,but worse! you have to answer for a rental car. never seen a cop car that wasn't road hard and put up wet.worse thing to do with a horse or a car.call the parts store and price an o2 censer or a trans. kick down cable.. our daughter has a 98 crown vick with about the same miles but not an excop car. i do all the work and it is a parts money hole she is trying to fill. NO don't buy it.. look around, put the word out to people you trust ask them to do the same.

A $500 car is exactly that. What do expect to get for $500? You do know that the car probably sold for $20,000 when it was new. So, to get rid of it for 500, it probably has some problems. Buyer beware. But, I would definitely take into account the previous owner of the car. If they drove it every day and are not out to swindle you, it may be a good deal.

I say beside the power there is not a single advantage of Crown Victoria over Impala. In my experience Impala will last longer and will have less trouble throughout the ownership. In the end it might pay for itself. Also Impala looks better then Crown. My recommendation: Impala.

no, I would not. First of all this car is equipped with a more powerful motor and better suspension and is made for high speed pursuits, you do not want you daughter in this car and neither does your insurance company. Especially if it has the words POLICE INTERCEPTOR on the back. good luck

THAT VEHICLE WILL HAVE THE 4.6 ENGINE AND AT 90,000 MILES THEY HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS AND THAT IS JUST FOR THE REGULAR PERSON.

BUT WITH 200,000 MILES AND A BEING POLICE VEHICLE IT WAS TAKEN BETTER CARE OF BUT I WOULD SAY THAT IT HAD AT LEAST TWO OR THREE ENGINES IN IT BY NOW.

SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, NO IT WOULD BE A BAD DEAL AND MOST OF ALL A WASTE ON GOOD MONEY.

i would not buy it, 200,000 miles for a crown vic is way too much. plus your daughter will be spending way too much filling the gas tank, the v8 in the crown vic takes a lot of gas. dont buy this car its not worth it
