I know in most states in the US the age to purchase alcohol is 21. I wanted to know if minors simply cannot purchase alcohol or they cannot consume it at all. Let's say you're at a restaurant and your dad buys you a beer and you're under the drinking age. Is that illegal?

Some of the laws are so confusing and I just wanted to set it straight for myself.

If you are under the age of 21 it is illegal for you to have to or to consume alcohol. In some states if you are at home and your parents are with you and ok it, it is legal to drink. But they can not give it to your friends. If you were at a restaurant your parents could not buy you a beer.

You cannot not purchase or consume under the age of 21. If someone buys you a beer whether it be your dad or not, this is considered contributing to a minor. It is all illegal until you turn 21.

it is unlawful to sell alcohol to everybody below the age of 21, and it is unlawful for a minor to be in possession of alcohol. between the an prolonged time of 18 and 21 that's a dash stickier. A minor is a individual below the criminal age of emancipation, which for many states is eighteen. this means that throughout some states the possession of alcohol isn't unlawful for a individual who's, say, 20, even though it’s nevertheless unlawful to sell to them. maximum public institutions limit persons below the age of 21 from ingesting alcohol on their premises, which they have the the main suitable option to do. Many states have instituted the “criminal ingesting Age” to close this loophole, and that age is 21. In those states that's illegitimate for a individual below the age of 21 to purchase, very own, or consume an alcoholic beverage. i wish this permits!
